Just got the shortblock completely rebuilt and and about a week ago got the engine together and installed. Well I started it up yesterday and it just didn't seem to run right. So out of curiosity, I did a compression test and low and behold NO COMPRESSION in cylinder 2!!!:mad: After looking closely at the the cam and lifters I noticed that one of the lifters is higher than the rest. I then proceeded to remove all the rockers and lifters to check the valves and....WOW... still no compression in cylinder 2. So now I have to remove the head and have the valves checked...ect...ect.
This car is becoming the bane of my existence!

Did you try pouring a little oil down the spark plug hole?

No I havn't tried that.... What am I looking for? There is absolutely no compression without the rockers on. putting oil in there will just shoot it back up the valve seals.

If its all new it'll take a little bit for the rings to seal. What kinda oil is in it?

That is common with a valve job and/or aftermarket cams you need to set valve clearance. You can shim the lash adjuster up or take a little off the stem of the valve.

The valve isn't closing with the rockers off. there is no compression at all even with the rockers off.

That sucks, did you have the guides replaced on the heads or anything? If so they could be too tight and in a bind. I've had that happen.

yeah I will have to remove the engine. I will probably see what Barker will charge to go through them and make sure that they are ok.. If it's going to be too expensive, I am going to buy a set of trickflows or something. It's just depressing to think that you are so close to having a running and driving car and then BAM! There's a problem. Just my luck.

Well if its just a bent valve. Barker should be able to hook you up with a new valve. Even if the seat has minimal damage or anything like that as well. You should be able to get out of there under 100.00.

was it in time

Yes it was in time, but I think it happened upon installation. I think it bent a valve and possibly broke the valve guide. I will know tonight when I take off the heads.
