I keep getting a random #3 cylinder miss fire. If I clear the code it go's away. Figured it was a coil goin south.

Replace the boot. It costs 6 bucks. The boot assembly is a available separate from the COP. These are known for cracking and causing misfires. I picked one up recently from NAPA for $6 and change.

Yes. Had a light misfire but not getting a code. Replaced plug boot on #8 and runs nice. It had a small crack in it. Worth a shot. $6 is cheaper than a whole COP assembly, and you are only out $6 if it turns out to be the COP assuming the plug is good.
Just to be safe swap COPs on Cyl 2,3 clear the code again, and see if the code happens on 3 still or goes to cylinder 2. If it stays at cyl 3 its likely a plug or fuel injector. If it moves to cyl 2 its a boot or COP. Inspect the COP boot for tears ,cracks. Good luck.

I replaced all the boots on my coils on the excursion when I had miss fire problems. I still have a bag of old coils 10 of them in there had new boots put on them before I replaced them. you are welcome to have a coil or rob a boot and spring. They were from my 2000 V10 I don't know if they would work or not. The price is right. Pm me if you need one
