Well I had been waiting to take my own pictures before posting, but that may not be until Spring. So here are a couple pics from the guy I purchased it from. It is a 1991 SSP and formerly a Florida Highway Patrol unit. Mostly stock...actually other than plug wires and the new Flowmaster cat-back it is stock...or was. I have already did the necessary Steeda shifter upgrade and plan on putting a Steeda clutch cable in it next week. That will be as far as the mods go. When the wife gets done with school this summer and my '88 is done I am going to restore this one back to how it looked when it was in service with the Florida Highway Patrol.

But for now this is how she looks.

This is what she will look like when I am done...minus the black wheels as this SSP originally had the silver 10 holes. (This was my '88 FHP SSP that is now in a FL Police museum.)

I actually have a set of black ones already. But this car did not have the black wheels while it was in-service with the FHP, so I am leaving them silver. Will probably put the black ones on my '88 LX. (But I agree the black looks better.)

So you're painting the quarter white as well?

So you're painting the quarter white as well?

Yes, it is actually a cream or tan color. The entire car will be took to bare metal for a repaint when it is time. That is also the original way it was painted from Ford.

That SSP is awesome. I think you are doing the right thing by restoring it to the in service version. There is a guy who lives in the next town over (Paris,KY)who has a FHP all decked out and its bad.

I believe that is a friend of mine. We went to the Mustang show in Ashville, NC last year together....well as a large SSP group. If it is the one with the Vector lightbar that is him.

nice coupe!

Thanks :bigthumb

Well today was the day. We went and pulled her out of storage today. Hooked the negative cable back up and fired up on the first try!

So I ran her downtown and had the out of state inspection done finally, so now I can DD for the summer. One thing and the only thing I did before storing her was I put a Steeda Tri Ax shifter in it. Clutch cable is shot so I had already ordered a Steeda adjustable one while she was in storage...that will be the first thing I do. Last thing it needs for now is an alignment. Once those issues are addressed she will be used quiet a bit.

Future plans are this winter to pull the motor and re-gasket the entire engine and take care of all those PIA 302 leaks. Plus change out a few items like timing chain and oil pump to keep her healthy. Engine bay does not look bad so I will probably leave it alone other than cleaning it up.

So here are a few pics fresh out of storage and with no bath.

Pulling this thread back from the dead.

A couple months ago we purchased a very rare SSP that was originally from the New Mexico State Police. Because the FHP SSP's are so common I have decided to make this a resto mod project and do a full restoration on the NMSP SSP. Nothing crazy just going to install the GT40P heads and Explorer intake to start with. Will probably go with a mild cam and some suspension upgrades. Eventually I will have it painted back the original black and tan as that was the way it came from Ford.

Here are just a couple quick pics from when we were bleeding the brakes and installing the clutch cable. Discovered she has some KYB struts up front...although they have seen their day.

Well gave her the last bath for the year. Hope to start tearing into her in the next couple weeks. I need to address a few leaks and replace the brake booster. Not sure if I am going to do the GT40P heads still or go a different route.

Anyhow a couple pics from today...

Looks good !! I have a brake booster if you need one, it actually came off an FHP car, not that it's any different than one from a regular 5.0 ....

Looks like it's in awesome shape. I'd like to see it with the black 10 holes on it as is, it would have an undercover feel to it. Looks great regardless!

Thanks...I actually have a set I am thinking of putting on. The silver ones are correct for this car...but the black look much better IMO too.

nice car bud,
guy down the street from me has or had a fox ssp, it had wiring problems tho, someone cut all the wiring from the police radio spot light and whatever else the cops used out and didnt do it right (IE cut the wires with a hack saw lol) and it would run and quit after 5 minutes,

but gl with the car :)
