Ok, almost time to yank the short bus'es heart out and overhaul it. 185k miles have worn it down, and made it a ticky lil bastard. So as I'm pricing this stuff, I have a couple questions. Do I go for a HV oil pump? Any bearing brands or styles to avoid or seek out? Any advice or warnings on new parts i'll be using? I've done some overhauls before, so thats not a biggie. But it's been a while since I've done one, so part quality may have changed. Thats my reason for this post.

I always ready stay away from the HV oil pumps unless you are going to run a larger oil pan. I have always stuck with Ford Racing stock oil pumps and never had an issue or failure. I have also always used Ford Racing water pumps...again no complaints.

Stay with stock volume unless ur goin with a 7qt pan. Run a direct replacement pump

Clevite is good for bearings

I remembered hearing that on the oil pumps, just thought I'd ask to be sure. Clevite is also sealed power nowadays arent they?

I use coated bearings for extra safety if you have water go through oil at some point, set of clearances right and stock pump is fine, unless you use big poan like these guys said..

I like the turbo idea fo sho! But gotta get rid of the nasty lifter tick thats been there from day 1. Also just want a nice clean lumpy motor for spring. Then after $1700 free's up, it's on 3 time!!!

Sound like a good plan. I also heard bad thing about running a HV oil pump with a stock oil pan. When I put my motor in last winter I used a Melling standard volume oil pump. I did up grade my oil pump driveshaft to a ARP unit.

I agree its a cheap parts but if it broke it would suck to replace. Buy the arp rod the first time, I did

Not only to replace, but when they break usually nobody catches it and spins bearings or welds em to crank!!

I've seen stock shafts twist like a mofo when the pump locks up. Actually caught 2 of em in my day without spinning a bearing. But 3rd times the charm, so I'll deff go the arp route on this one. I started gathering parts this week. I figure in 2-3 weeks I'll have everything to do this. Gonna have cam bearings pressed in and do the rest myself.

stick with stock oil pan and stock style pump. Upgrade your rod bolts and main studs.
