I recently purchased and older motor home that has a 8000W diesel generator. It will start and run but is not putting out any electricity.

I have checked the obvious fuses, breakers, and switches but can't find a problem. 110/220 makes me a little nervous (it hurts a lot more than 12v ;)) and would prefer to supply beer and cash to someone that is more familiar with there things.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have one of those with the opposite problem, generator good motor doesn't run. It's an ONAN and I would let it go CHEAP.

If it is running fine it is more than likely the voltage regulator. I used to work at Budget RV. I can look at it for you after the holidays. I work with generators everyday, just a lot bigger, up to 4.5MW!!

You can check to see if it has a Capcitor, remove it and see if the bottom of it is flat or is rounded. It it won't stand up straight and wants to fall over then the capacitor is bad, you can also check it to see if it's bad or good with a muti meter.

I had some elec. motor work done at A-1 auto electric in NKY. I bet they could do it, really nice folks, family business.

They can do almost anything the owner Jamie said, starters, alternators, motors etc.

I had a convertable top motor for a old car that was no longer available, a big top out fit quoted me 300+ and they did it for 50 bucks!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll take another look at it tomorrow.

If I don't get it figured out I'll take DSSKing68 up on his offer.

Thanks again.
