I have a guy that offered me a set of e7 ported heads for 100. He says this will out flow a stock gt40. Is true? I also found a set of 69 351 heads that just came out of the machine shop, they have been set up for 2.02 he has the new valves. They have been milled .10. Should I just get gt40? Looking for the best bang for the bucks.

all depends on the port job, but I would think they would outflow stock gt40s. my brother made 260/290 at the wheels with ported e7s, mild cam and edelbrock intake with some bolt ons.

I'm pretty sure that would beat a cobra with stock heads all else being equal, but thats just speculation.

You can get some added power out of a properly ported E7 but your best bet is to go with the GT40's and have those worked if you want to stick w/ a cast iron head. I recently had a 306 w/ stock GT40's dyno tuned, 268Whp 300Wtq. Could easily get more out of them w/ some cleaning of the valve pockets and opening up the intake, exhaust ports and gasket matching everything, may even be able to put a larger valve in them.
Just a little insight.

Check out diyporting.com ... that guy has alot of good info. I am also going with ported e7 heads. It will be the "weak" link power wise though. Everything says to get good aluminum for the best gains and power. But if it's in your budget go for it. It's all I could afford too and it's not a horrific upgrade down the road.

I'd save up another $100 and get a set of Used gt40p heads. Best bang for your buck.

Stay away from 351 heads, not much improvement there. The ported stockers really just depends on how they were ported. Bring them by and let me look at them.
As for porting GT40's and P's, didn't spend much time with those as I did the E7's. I went 10.0 on E7's by the way, also made over 285 rwhp with them and shorty headers, stock cam. It's all in the port design.

That is crazy what would you charge to port the e7s?

Why stay away from the 69/70 Windsor heads? They are almost identical to the GT40 heads with a smaller combustion chamber. I ran those on a stock bottom end, f cam, carbed with the heads only having the 1.94/1.60 valves and it went 12.40's all day long on motor with just gear and exhaust.

Didn't see he said they were 69 heads, most aren't. I would like to get them on a flow bench and see how they compare to GT40's.

It's not worth it to port them. If you find a set already done, and they are done properly, then that's another story. My heads are on my vert for sale by whoever owns it now. I wanted them back but guess that will never happen now.
