There is no doubt, they are out there.

When I was about 17, I worked at a full service Shell station (for those too young to remember, it had service bays. Oh...and a tow truck). A older gentleman came in and asked for a quart of ATF. I asked what kind of car and he told me it was a Ford. So, I sold him a can of type F and off he went. A few minutes later, he came back in, for another quart. A few minutes later, again. So I asked how in the heck he could even get the car there, that low on fluid. I went outside with him and saw immediately the problem. He had the oil filler cap off (351, if IIRC) and said, "I still don't see any fluid in there". He was going to fill the crankcase, with ATF!

My Brother bought a car a few years ago that had a "FULL" crankcase. Drained and refilled to proper level and hes still driving it.
Im suprised that he didnt fill it himself.
