Just curious as to what brands of converters the Stangbangerz crew are running. I am going to get another one built for my car and was curious what everybody else has. My previous one was a Precision Industries and it was super nice. The car is a street car and doesn't make a ton of power , I am just wondering what everybody has or has used, Street car to full blown race car. Thanks

PTC, Edge Racing, JW
I now run a BTE in my PG
I had real good luck with a edge racing convertor in my old AOD setup...did exactly what I asked Andre to set it up to do.

I fix a bunch of screwed up edge units, PTC aren't bad but rarely billet cover units. They claim billet covers are unneeded and I disagree. One thick piece of metal is better than a stack of thin plates. Edge won't use the good sprag but they'll charge you for it if you need it and not put it in, seen it a few times. They also mig weld the fins which leaves little slag beads inside them. All the PTC units I have seen were furnace brazed and/or tig welded which is the right way to do it.Edge on the other hand uses the same sonnax front covers I use. I have put them in some very high power stuff and they are the strongest around because they are drop forged castings instead of billet machined from a blank. The replaceable pilot is also nice for servicing. You can replace the pilot yourself if it gets worn on one side from an engine problem or something.I build units here and repair other brands all the time. If you mention my name at any of the local tracks you are sure to find several guys running units I built or rebuilt.

Just type dirtydog. I have done it on a bunch of forums I have never been on and found my name come up occasionally. I do tons of 4r70w stuff but that is what I made huge innovations on and actually put me in a place of going into business doing it on my own instead of working for someone else.

PTC converters were in both my 8 and 9 second street cars. Worked on the street and worked great at the track.:bigthumb

Ultimate convertor concepts or UCC for short. Lenny has a good following amongst the turbo crowd.

I know a few guys running Edge converters in AOD's around here with good results. I am pretty confident my uncles 500 inch Hemi has a PTC behind it. I know a ton of people run the Precisions in LSX cars. I am actually kind of surprised nobody on here has ran one of them. I have heard about basically ever brand listed so far except for the Greg Slak. I will have to research that one.
I never heard of it either but my car was built with some pretty pricey stuff so I'm guessing its good. If you want a list of what's done to my car so you can get an idea and compare to what your doing pm me and I will send you some details.

with a quick search I found 4 on yellow bullet
I am sure if I search my name and some variations a few more will show up but sometimes people slang things and makes a search difficult.

9" greg slak in mine.
greg slack builds good converters, he is out of north carolina. Converters are kind of painted like a rainbow. There are many many fast cars in the north/south corlina and georgia area running his stuff.
Makes sense. Car came from nc

From what I see on units brought to me for service coan seem to have the consistantly high quality. I don't agree with everything they do but I understand the reasoning. Some of the best converters I have seen in quality were TCI, oddly the most I see are TCI and the majority are disgusting crap. Both nice TCI units I have seen the people bought directly from TCI and paid over $1200.
