It doesn't look like it got the TiVCT from the 5.0, but I wonder if they took other ques from the heads and block design?

they need to stop making them before they become 100% worthless, they have already been way over produced and the resale value is awful. Hopefully this is the last one and theyre going out with a bang.

I'd rather see 500 lbs. less weight than 100 extra HP.

Why? These cars will never be an investment and anyone who buys one thingking they will be is a fool. Old cars are valuable because no one wanted them originally. Ford should make as many as they can sell at a profit. Thats just good business on their part if they do.

Blame all the government regulations in the name of safety and the 95+% of buyers who like loads of gadgets on their cars. I'm with you though. I would rather see a lighter more performance oriented car

awsome car glad they are atleast trying something different with a new 5.8 liter but this is just going to make the front end heavier which is the problem with all the GT500. i say make a super 5.0 or something and drup it in there. be lighter and all the fun of a 5.8

The front end isn't getting any heavier. They are using the aluminum 5.4 block, boring it out and using the same spray in bore liner that is used in the 2011 block to achieve the extra displacement.

I'm sure there is no word on pricing yet is there Beefcake? No way I can afford one now, but I'd love to have a GT500. I'm sure with all the bells and whistles we are looking at close to if not over $60k now.

Nonetheless, we've confirmed the source of that 650 hp, and it's not a blown version of the new 5.0 Coyote block used in the GT and Boss 302.
Rather, it's the supercharged Ford GT engine used in the current GT500, with all its high-tech metallurgy, bumped from 5.4 liters to 5.8 liters displacement. Redline is 7,000 rpm, which will mean incredible piston speeds for a long-stroke engine. We'd also predict some sort of self-adjusting, variable-rate suspension.
And a substantial price increase. Yet even with a bump of 25 percent from the 2012 GT500 base price of $49,605, we still haven't hit $65,000. You can't touch 650 hp or 200 mph from any other automaker for that kind of cash

I may get kicked for this but I hate the way they look. I much rather buy an 05-09 and drop the new 5.0 it. The rear in my opinion is ugly as sin. Since it makes 650 horse that's what most people will see. I'm waiting for the body change in a few years. It's still a kick ass car I would drive it but not buy it.
now that the ground effects (what the hell are they called??) are body color, I think it looks 10x better!

November 15th 2011 marks the greatest day of internet reading these eyes have ever seen haha. I'm having quite a bit of fun on all the Camaro forums right now. It's amazing to see the mass of incorrect information and general stupidity/denial they have on that side. There are actually alot of would-be ZL1 owners now saying they will most likely be buying a GT500, and that's saying something.. This thing is down-right nasty, and we've still got the next gen mustang to look forward to in the not too distant future!! Long live Ford!

I like the front but still have heartburn with the back end. I have seen an 11 witha Saleen package on it that really cleans the back end up very nicely in comparison with stock. 650HP is a selling factor. Even got me dreaming a bit, but then again I just can't get past that back end unless they change it to the better like I heard in a recent rumour mill.

Rear end is updated, the tail lights don't angle upwards towards the front as much as the 2010-12 cars. Although, the rear is still kind of tall for my liking....

$65K may be amrelative bargain but I think it would alienate a large portion of the core Mustang market.

Vast improvement on the tail lights but the rear body lines are still to "skulpted" for my taste on the read panel. Don't care for the pitched corners on either side. And yes still too tall so to speak. Would rather see a flatter over all back end. But in the end who am I to pass opinion when I couldn't afford to pay attention to one of those 2013's let alone test drive one? LOL!

Eh the rod ratios are so close between the 5.4 and the 5.0 (1.59 vs 1.62) which isn't too bad. The piston speed is approaching 4800fpm of piston speed at 7,000rpm on the 5.8, which is on the high side of what is recommended. I believe you have run your 5.0 up to about 7500 which would give you close to 4600fpm of piston speed so its in the ballpark.
What is interesting to me though is that if they did increase the redline on the 5.8 to 7000rpm, that means they had to have put in better rods than come in the 5.4 version of the GT500. I'd say a good number of high horsepower stock shortblock GT500's are a result of exceeding the stock rev limiter while making 600+ at the tires. The powder forged rods they put in the GT500 are great at holding power, just not at high rpm. The exploded view of the 5.8 is a little small to see too many details, other that it looks like an I-beam rod that would be consistent with the general design of the 5.4 GT500 stock rod, but maybe they are a true forged rod this time to cope with the increased redline and power output?
