Need a little help can't decide which gear would be best.I had a 373 Richmond in my 85gt 5speed I thought it was perfect.Then I bought a 99cobra 5speed and had a 410 ford racing gear.I know its 2 totally different motors.Would a 410 be to much for my 88coupe its a 3speed auto.Carb .Its a track car only...Would appreciate any input.Thx Don

The mod motor has lower torque but revs higher thanthe puch rod 5.0. Therefore the 4.10 (even a 4.30) is a better choice. I have known several folks with "street" Fox bodies running 5.0's and when they put a 4.10 inthem all they could do was burn outs. Sure there will be difference of opinion, but IMO if you are not going to the track and racing this car or plan on running ET Streets year round, stick with the trusty 3.73. It is a great choice of gear for the car combo. THis is all assuming you are running a 5 speed. If the car is automatic I could not give any reference or opinion since all my experience and those I have referenced are all running standard shift vehicles.

It's a 3speed auto.Track car only will not be on street. The car is built for the track I think it will hook just worried about 410 being to much.

I believe mine to be a 4:30. Its an automatic as well. I love it and it does fine on the highway. I would do the 4:30

I've got 4:10's in my Fox behind a 347 and I can do a little more than burnouts LMAO there's only about 2-400 rpm difference between the two, I'm not sure what that relates to MPH wise but 4:10's are perfect in my car

For racing on a 26 inch slick, my 88 topped out in the mid 11s@120. This was pushing close to 6500 rpm w 4.10s. RPM dropped a little with an auto. You dont want to run out of rpm at the big end but you also dont want to have too little. Id try the 4.10s first and see where you are.

Assuming a 6000 RPM redline, stock 225/55/16 tires (25.74"), stock T5, fourth gear top end final calculations:

4.10 gear = 112.080 MPH. 2944=55mph in fourth gear

3.73 gear = 123.198 MPH. 2678=5mph in fourth gear

difference in RPM in 4th gear = 266 RPM @ 55 MPH

Source of Calculator - Corral RPM/SPEED/GEAR Calculator

Good point. Guess my source just thought 4.10's in his was way too much gear. He went back to 3.73's in the end. He did not race his, so don't know why he even messed with doing gears at all. Have a nice week.

mine's a little different, it's a 347 all lite internals, I've got the limiter set at 6800 right now behind a t-56 4:10's. I'll have to check the slips but I want to say with a 275/40/17 Nitto DR it was trapping some where around 120.... and in the mid 11's

I say if it's a track car then it's gotta have some suspension under it, as well as some "decent tieres". GEAR THAT WHORE! I run 4:10's in my 5 gear street car. I ran some 3 speed chebbys in my day, and if you can twist 6k, then 4:10's are deff a great choice. If I was going for every ounce I could get, I'd go 4:30's (track only). Like John said, dont fear the gear. Now if it's a boost car, that might be a different story. Most guys run less gear on boost, to keep in the boost longer which makes better power. But N/A, gear the piss out of it lol.

I have 3.73s on the car in my sig and I wanna switch to 4.10s but I am afraid they will be to much especially when on the spray.

there are many online calculators to determine trap rpm for different gear ratios, just enter all of your info and you can see the difference.

Going with a steeper gear, our cars seem to be similiar the times are pretty close. We were going to spray a 100 shot this year and decided agianst it.Spray helped u go 11.9 that sweet.

Yes I launched normal and sprayed in 3rd and 4th gear on a 100 shot. Never launched on the juice but previous owner did and ran 11.78. What gear u switching to?

i have 4.10s in my car an its a 5 speed an it wasnt bad on the street an they are awesome on the strip na but with the spray they seemed a little steep but my rev limiter was still set at 6250 so thats why im goin to 373s this year because its goin to be supercharged

Nice that's what I am thinking about also just worried about running out of rpms on spray but I could always throw a 28 inch on the back
