View Full Version : whats a fun winter vehicle?

I am in need of something for the winter. Front wheel drive , awd, or 4x4. Dont want a gas drinking jacked up truck because I may use this to deliver pizza if its snowing. (great money on snow days) I have found some fun stuff but nothing that has grebbed me yet and I have a little time before I really need it. Not spending over 2000.

Try to find a little Nissan 4x4. Just make sure the frame isnt rusted out. Fuckers run forever.

sean

yea... thats the key. One with the frame not rusted out.... May have to go down south for that one.. lol

Bah where's your sense of adventure? I despise front wheel drive especially in snow and ice. I figure if you drive a vehicle that never connects well you don't get any surprises!

No problem. Not sure how many miles are too many. I know between my two uncles they have put a shit ton of miles on the four different ones they have owned. They never really had anything other than typical maintenance things needing replaced. Plus, parts can be had for next to nothing if something does go wrong.

sean
10-29-2011, 12:35 AM
Lol. Ohh I agree with you. I'm just not willing to do it any more. I spent a lot of time stuck in the driveway in my clown car last winter.

Sean, I drove a 91 Ranger 4x4 2.9l 5 speed for 11 years. LOVED IT! 4x4 kicked ass, and with a stick you could make it get up and go pretty decent. I actually 5.0'd it with an AOD when the T5 shit out on me, and kept it 4x4 too. I even went as far as to fuel inject it, and that thing was just as reliable v8'ed in the winter as it was stock! Mileage was awesome both ways too, and man would it fry those 33's lol...

I use to deliver pizzas with a mazda 2wd pickup truck decent tires and some weight in the back and it did fine. Just run what ever you have and maybe put some snow tires on if it is tough out. Now to have fun in the snow I have a WRX with blizzaks I am looking forward to playing with that. The Subaru outback we had was amazing in the snow with all seasons. It made it up my iced over drifted over driveway when the 4x4 excursion had all kinds of problems. My old 88gt I use to drive in the snow with studded snow tires it was a blast

I put 15 inch steelies on mine and a set of general UHP grabbers I think they are 205 75 r15. narrow yes, perfect for snow and rain. I also have a v8 explorer rear axle with disk brakes. 2wd is much nicer than 1 wheel drive. It grabbed hard enough to go 3 wheel motion pulling a car off a trailer with a locked up wheel. It is hard on motor mounts I think I am on my 4th driver side mount. Time to chain it down. The stock clutch gave up the first time I dumped it. Had to upgrade to the larger sachs clutch which is barely enough.

Not that I know of. I was just trying to point out that 2 wheels turning is much better than one. When the truck was one wheel drive it wasn't too much fun up and down the hills on bauer. Run for all you got and hope you make it up the other side.

Found a contour svt and for some reason I seem to remember the zx2 being a nice little car and pretty peppy.

The guy with the contour is a pain in the butt to get to respond to any questions and wont set up a time to see the car. I believe I am going to quit messing with him.

A customer of mine just bought a Subaru SVX that needed a strut and sway bar bushing real cheap . The car is fairly clean and runs strong for being a lil v6 . He has agreed to bring it by when the snow hits to check out the AWD . My favorite winter beater was a 89 Ranger 2wd with a 2.3 turbo . I put a set of Winterforce tires on the back and about 500 lbs in the bed evenly and it would go anywhere even pulled of few people out the ditch with including a 95 K3500 with a blade . It was a friend and it turned into a $100 bet the third yank was in third gear at about a 20 mph roll bouncing off the rev limiter spinning and jerked it right out .Here is a pic without the winter wheels and tires yet. http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/galaxie1_/?action=view&current=DCP_0997.jpg
