:mad:Well, to start off this wonderful Monday morning.... both my truck and van was broken into. The managed to steal DVD player and a bunch of other stuff and in the process tore the hell out of my dash. I am currently trying to repair the dash the best that I can but it still sucks!
I told the Cops when they came to take the report that I was wanting to put up cameras and he told me that it didn't matter. They told me that even if I got them on video that it couldn't be used to prosecute.
Now I have to haggle with the insurance to get everything fixed and replaced. Fucking thieves should have all there hands cut off and then maybe they will get the point to not touch something isn't there's....

The video can be used to prosecute if you have signs up stating that you have the cameras most of the kits come with the stickers. You have to put one near every entrance door.
If you live in an apartment or condo you probably can't do anythign unless the apartment complex puts a sign on the entrance. If you notice many of them have signs saying private property as well as closed caption tv and neighborhood watch,etc.... Now if you park on a public street again you are screwed, it has to be on private property. Usually I find police aren't concerned with catching the theif as they are trying to make you out to be a criminal when they come to investigate. The only cases they seem to want to catch are insurance fraud so anytime you make a report that you could claim insurance on you are automatically assumed to be a criminal.

Yeah, Gunny was the name. I am now having to screw with the retarded insurance company to figure out what all can be done.

Yeah I totally agree with the fact that the cops arn't concerned with catching the crooks. The only thing that makes the cops not look at this as insurance fraud is that that there were 10 or so people in the subdivision that got there cars broken into.
My neighbor across the street had his window knocked out of his car for a pack of his cigarettes also.

Thats just BS... I dont understand why you cant prosecute if you have video proof of the pieces of shit doing the crime... Just makes no sense... Yeah, lets let criminals get away with shit even if we have them on tape......

yeah, they say that it in inadmissible in court because you have to advertise that you have surveillance systems taping on the property. I am probably going to still go and buy some camera's any ways. I figure that if the cops don't catch them, I will release it to every media in the SW Ohio region. I will make someone take notice one way or the other.

Screw it, Id throw up signs everywhere with the system. The signs alone might intimidate them enough to know to stay away. If you are considering buying a setup Id check out Microcenter. They have good deals on them and are local.
I've been a police officer for 16 years and have never heard that about video. We use it all the time.
Sorry about your car...been there and it sucks!

Thanks man, but yeah that's what the Franklin Officer said. I just don't understand it either.
I am going today to find a good camera setup that has good night vission. I just want the video to be clear enough. And at this point, I will probably something expensive to make sure I get a good picture.

There are quite a few at Microcenter with the night vision and even sound. For around 4-500 you can get a very nice setup with like 5-6 cameras.

So do it anyway, put signs all over the damn place that say you're recording everything that happens on your property, and then do just that. Make it legal and if the fuckers are stupid enough to do it again then you can try to pin the previous thefts on them too. A good lawyer never hurts.

The harbor freight cameras work and are easy to wire long distances because you just use telephone wire on them. I bought a really nice heated night vision camera at microcenter and think every system should have at least one of those. My system has 8 camera's 2 are the indoor microcenter ones which are good but only indoors and need light. 1 is the good one I mentioned which is really cool because it has facial recognition enhancement which also gets license plates. I can read plates on cars going down the road that you can't read if you stand out there. 3 others are the micro center units that are night vision, they are a little bit better than the harbor freight ones but the wire is expensive. I have about as much in wire as I have in camera's do not go wireless they are not good. Storms mess them up and they seem to fail when you need them most. They don't like cold weather, hot weather, rainy or snowy weather, etc..... If you search the net you can find the pci card with 8 camers for abotu half of whea tmicrocenter has it for. Don't get the cheapo ones from china that are on ebay. They are ok but the software sucks and no other software works with them. They are xp only last I saw too.

FALSE ALARM!!!!!
Just got a call from the PD and they said for me to come down and see if I could ID some of the stuff that they had just recovered from a traffic stop. The car had like 8 hand held tool cases, leaf blower, DVD Players, and around 6 GPS units. Bad thing is that none of it was my stuff.
I did however show the officer how to check the GPS where they came from with the "Navigate Home" button. Looks like the officers have some calling to do and not to mention the suspect has a little explaining to do...

I hate a theif! My grandmother got robbed on the day of my grandpa's funeral years back. It took me 3 months to figure out just who did it (with a lil physical persuasion) I then had to wait another 7 months for him to get out of jail again. The very day he got out of jail, I walked up on his front portch, and beat his bitch ass across the front yard. I knocked the mirror off my own truck with his head. I caught him two more times that day, and beat him senseless each time I saw him. Eventually the sheriff showed up, and begged me to tell him that this guy hit me first. I answered honestly, and the sheriff yelled at me to tell him that, so I did as he requested. That boy spent 1 1/2 years in the slammer for that and priors ontop of a parole violation. I do love living in a small county! lol

The GPS trick only works if the owner was STUPID enough to put their home location in as home.
My HOME location takes you to the local police station :)

Well, there were multiple addresses from the GPS units. When I showed the cop that, his eyes lit up....

Ohhhh how I hate screwing with insurance!. They started acting stupid already. I told the lady after she made a smartass comment that if I'm not satisfied I will just get my lawyer involved and let him handle it. Phy-my God......she didn't like that at all and then started kissing my asset.
Ggrrrrr. I could just strangle these people.

well two thieves just bit the dust here in elsmere. me and better half were out t/t with the kids when we heard a loud crash on the street that runs parallel behind the houses ( much like an alley). When I walked between the houses to see what was going on, an officer was pulling one guy from the car and wresteling him to the ground. The second guy started to take off between the houses when i gave chase and caught him after about a 75 yd chase. After making my tackle on him i put him in an arm lock with a few other smacks. another person who saw this then helped me escort him back to the scene where the officer exclaimed there's my other guy. Turns out they just stole that car from someone who left keys in car at circle k. Felt good to take another scuzzball down and give them some punishment in the process. :punch:

The nerve of people. about 6 years ago a guy knocked on my door looking for scrap, I was in the shower and answered the door in a towel to tell him no I take care of it myself. He stole the converter off my car I was working on out of the driveway and I was getting dressed so I couldn't chase him in time. a minute ago that guy came with another guy to ask about catalytic converters. The guy that stole from me stayed outside the gate while the other guy asked me about them. I stared straight at the theif and told him what happened and added in "I should have put a bullet in his head" guy got real nervous and left. Did he think I would forget?

Nothing better than street justice for theives.... I think that in cases like this, its a one and done kind of deal.... Don't give these lowlife's another chance to steal again....
Plenty of people who have stolen from the drifting community, are incapable of stealing anymore.... that's how it should work
