Well, after running the BEST time ever in my car last Friday, a 11.56, I started pulling the motor on Saturday.
This is how I started:

To put all of this:

On This 16K high compression motor:

Out with the old:

After taking the heads off the old motor, I figured out why I was not running the way that I should have. Three of the six pistons were allowing oil to blow by, which was lowering my octane level.

So the tear down of the old motor starts to put all the parts on the new/used block. Here are some of the parts laying around:

Now it’s time to start the change over, first we got the Alum heads on:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1627.jpg
Then we install the in cam, and then the double roller timing chain:

Next the rocker arms to get installed, so that we could get push rod length and check for rocker arm geometry.

New Billet Flex plate, it was a good thing I got this, considering my old stock plate had three cracks in it about 1" long:eek:

Before putting the motor back, the new TQ converter goes in:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1640.jpg
Here we are getting ready for everything to go back in and finish up:

(And that is my Good Friend Tyler in those pics)
The good thing, is that all the parts were off my bench when it was all over:

Sorry about the sideways pics, I fixed them in photo bucket, but they are still coming up sidways, sorry.

So here is the break down on how it all went. I raced on Friday night, pulled the motor on Saturday to start the tear down. Worked some on Sunday, and Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday after work. Wednesday night, I started the car, realized I had some leaks here and there, got them fixed on Thursday night and Drove the car today after I got off work today.
For me, I think that is not too bad, considering all that we did. It seems the most time consuming thing is getting all the part cleaned up from all the gasket material, and measuring pushrod.
We I first kicked the motor over to get oil pressure we hear this very loud metal to metal noise. We look under the car and see Alum shavings and the both of us are like, WTF. Come to find out, the weights on the new flex plate were bigger than the stock plate and they were hitting the started housing. So the starter got modified, no more knocking noise.
I hope the results will be good from all of this work. I hope that I am able to get to the track next Friday and see what happens. Tomorrow, we are going to drive around and get some logs in to dial the tune in and the fueling.
There you have it, I would love to beat my 11.56 next week and my previous Dyno numbers.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the comments guys. It makes working on the car a little easier. I have tested the patience of my wife spending all the time in the garage this past week.

Oh yeah, can we say, TAKE TWO.:mad:
Well this afternoon, I went out driving in the car to gets some logs to try to get the fueling in a little better, and after about 30 miles of driving I pull back in the garage and see coolant leaking in a VERY strange place.
You will never believe it, one of my head studs is leaking all the way to the top and out under the washer, How the heck does that happen. So, I tear into the car at 12:30, get everything off to get the rear valve cover off, loosen all the head nuts about a 1/4 turn, and pullout the one head stud that was leaking. Got it all cleaned up, resealed the stud, installed it, retorqued the heads back down, installed everything i just took off it, filled it the car with coolant to work on the oil filter neck. It also had a small leak that needed fixing. All this by 3:30 or so.
Well, low and behold, the freaking stud is leaking AGAIN. There is something not right!! So, guess what I am getting ready to do................Yeap, pull the motor AGAIN to see what is going on with it.
It can be done in the car, but with it being the rear of the motor it is a PITA to work back there, and it would much easier to just pulll the damn thing.
So there you have, my luck sucks, and I get to spend more money on gaskets, oil, and more coolant. And why in the hell am I doing this again, someone please remind me.
This time around though, I am going to work a little at time, and not ever night on it, my wife will KILL me if I do this for another week.
I will keep you guys updated as I go, no need for pics though, jsut relook at the above pics for what I am doing.

Good luck with it man. There's always little quirks that pop up with new builds. Don't let it get ya frustrated.

Thanks for the luck, I need it.
It never fails that when I do a rebuild on this car, something ALWAYS comes up, I don't know why I am shock at all of this to tell you the truth.
I have called it a night, I am whipped out from the week. I have gotten the motor ready to pull, I just have one trans bolt, two power stearing bolts, fuel rail and the coolant hose to come off and the motor will be ready to pull.
So once again, I have a pile of parts on the table that I have pulled off the car. Time to order head gaskets..........

I feel like I don't though. At the end of October, I am out of town AND I am out of town the first Weekend of Nov.
what are you using to seal the studs?
I am sealing them with Indian Head thread sealant. We have used it in the past with no issue, I am wondering if there is something with the block itself, OR the stud. Once I get the motor pulled and the head off, I will know more.

Tonight, I got the motor all back together and ready to drop in as soon as I get home from work tomorrow. Only time will tell to see if the Permatex thread sealant works better than the indian head stuff, lets just say it better work.
If all goes well, I should be driving the car on Thursday and ready to go the track on Friday:D I am going to back out some timing and put a larger pulley on, just to be safe and on each run, start changing everything and hope to beat my PB at e20. At least I will be running and still be on the "Other Dozen" list.
Wish me luck guys that nothing else crazy comes up. I feel like I did everything right, but I with my luck, who know.........
