Alright so I've been on the site for awhile now, and finally feel I have the time to contribute as well as a project to share. So here it is. The green one is an HO with an aod and was in a head on "ditching", so the whole front end is trashed, had a guesstimate of 1500 just in straightening everything out. The primered one is also an HO with a manual, straight and sharp body but the guy has the motor half apart and he was going to stroke it and blah blah. So it's missing atleast the distributor, fuel rails and injectors. If anyone has any parts, advice or criticism for me go ahead and lay it out there. Also here's a couple pictures to start it off. Hope to hear from you guys.

I do have a few questions right off the bat. What is the largest lb. injectors I can use in the stock motor? And when I go for the distributor is there any way of telling if I need the steel or cast iron one without seeing what came out of it? And in everyone's opinion, is a mini tub do-able by someone with average fabrication experience? Thanks

sadly it's the lesser of the two, the other one is maroon. maybe i can trade both for black! I'm going to have it painted in the newer tungsten grey.

Alright, so I started tinkering as much as I could. He had the upper manifold, radiator, fan and intake off. He sold the distributor, fuel rails and injectors. In the process he cut all the lines for the AC at the pump and condensor, so I have an AC delete on the way.
http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l583/jktruckin06/1enginebay.jpg
So I have the radiator back in, fan on, AC pump and condensor out. Can anyone tell me how worried I shoulld be about leaves and such that got into the lower manifold and distributor hole? He didn't take much care to cover any holes.

I have went through alot of crap with my vert.. At times i wish i wouldnt have bought it... but i already have alot of cash in it to just give up on it and buy a new roller.... I have some pics in the progress under POVERTY PONY....
Keep building and sell off the unwanted parts...
Look at it this way you can build it how ever you want since you have to rebuild it all ....... at least thats what i keep telling myself ahahhahahah

Thanks for the advice setty. Your car is pretty slick. I was about to go for a 4 eye until the 87 kind of fell in my lap. Sometimes yourself is the hardest person to convince

Looks like you have a good start! The mini tub job aint real bad. Me and my buddy just did mine in his garage with basic tools, grinder and a welder. I dont think it turned out to bad. If you need any pics you can check out my project thread.

OK sounds good stangman. And that's reassuring draggin. I think it'd be better to just do the mini tub since the wheels I'm putting on it rub on the other car.

ok, so got my parts and got it together. It started up after just a few cranks. The timing was just roughly set. It was throwing flames out of the headers, so we shut it off. The temp was maxed out. Figured the thermostat was stuck, so took it out and it ran cooler. Does anyone know if gas in the oil could be caused by the timing being way out of adjustment? Also is there any other stuff I should keep an eye out for while getting this running after sitting?

Well I changed my mind and am just going to scrap the green car and motor as well as the motor in the primer one. Use that money to go towards painting the car this winter then build a motor up for it next year. Anyone know of a scrap yard that'll give me more for running motors?

I think that green vert was my cousins old car. I know he wrecked pretty hard and the firewall was pushed back pretty good. He wanted too much when I was interested in it, he hadn't had it paid off yet. Would have liked to have the rims tho! Good luck on the project!

thanks motox159... i forget the name i found on paperwork... i got the car, realized the depth of damage so i kept the wheels and some other stuff and sold it for a little over scrap still running...

Well the damn thing runs, waiting on some cash flow now. Got full length mm subframe connectors to get welded on and need to get the fuel line permanently ran. Ended up having to run the march alternator tensioner and idler pulley in place of the ac and power steering. Also got the AED throttle cable bracket and used a stock 1985 throttle cable.

Get a good machine shop to check the heads before dropping them on, no use in wasting 4 hours and a set of good gaskets.

So, have you thought about a fancy paint scheme for the vert?
(Anyone else notice the abundance of Verts gettin some love lately?)

Heads will be checked... I learned my lesson with the last set.
I was wanting to do the tungsten gray color, but I'm really not sure. It will probably be awhile though so I have some time to make up my mind.
