So I took my lady to target world today for her first time shooting. She shot a glock 9mm and did great. What kind of gun do you recomend for her to buy to carry. I'm thinking a springfield .40 any comments on that gun

Whats wrong with the Glock? Is she a small handed gal?

If she handled the 9mm without issue, let her try a 40, the extra bite might be too much.

While I like my 40's, it is not a fun round in a mini Glock, I'd go 9mm myself on a smaller frame if I was too carry.

If she was good with the Glocks stick with em. 9mm is a good round with the new ammo federals guard dog in 9mm did more damage then a hollow point 45.

For women, I usually recommend a revolver, they are more simple to use, and many women have a hard time pulling the slide back on a semi-auto. Also, with a semi-auto women have a hard time figuring out how to make it shoot if it jams. I would recommend a Ruger SP101 or GP100, buy a 357, and load it with 38's.

I would say the 9mm should do the job, hard to beat a .38 revolver. I need to find a holster for mine and it will be my carry of choice.

I think the baby Glock would be fine there is a ton of pros and cons. But what ever you do get I would have her put a few hundred rounds down range. I tell everyone that take my dads ccw class shooting is a perishable skill shoot much and often know your equipment semi autos are nice just cause of ammo capacity.

I have a Springfield XDm .40 and absolutely love it (my first handgun). I have put about 300 rounds through it, and shot a few other guns and still like mine best. That being said, i think i want to sell/trade it ;) so i can get the same gun in the compact version. i think i am going to start out with it being my carry gun and see how i like it. i borrowed an IWB holster from a guy at work and was able to conceal the fullsize pretty well, but it will be a lot easier to do with the compact.

I let my wife shoot it, she's never shot a handgun before and she was able to put some rounds down range no problem. she said it was probably a little much for her preference, but she also has nothing to compare it to. i want to let her shoot a 9mm and then mine again before we get her something. she is 5'1, so shorter arms probably make that a little harder to handle also.

I've never had a jam in my G27 " sub compact 40 ". I love the gun but its a little big for carry all the time. I picked up a kahr cm9 a while back. I love that gun. I carry it on a holster inside my front pocket. It doesn't kick to hard. I'm accurate with it. It's not much bigger than my diamondback 380. It wasn't to expensive either. If you want to try it out let me know. You supply the ammo and I'll bring it out. I can even bring the G27 out but it kicks a lot more.

Stoner holsters in middletown make some pretty nice holsters, and they make them right in the shop! You used to be able to see the people working on the sowing machines before they moved into the old pawn shop. I haven't been in there in close to a year now lol

The largest caliber she can shoot comfortably and accurately. My wife shoots an XD40SC.

my personal favorites Spring field XD, XDM, Glock or possibly a revolver some women have a hard time pulling back the slide on semi. What ever feels best in her hand.

THIS! Wife caa use the XD40, but not my XD45, slide is too stiff on the .45. She likes small revolvers, but feels they are underpowered. .38 isn't a hotrod out of a >2" barrel.

I see a valid point for the revolvers, I dont recommend the light aluminum frame ones though. I also agree with the Kahr CM9, well made and very slim in the hand. Bought my Dad one for Fathers day now I want one.

I carry the S&W body guard. .38+p plastic aluminum and a bit of steel it's a nice little weapon and light weight. My girl likes it. The +p has a snap in it she doesn't care for. I'm getting rid of a few 357 snub nose to my buddy if you want her to test them out before you buy something.

Yes, I agree. I would have one right now if I had the expendable cash. Kahr Arms are outstanding weapons.

Revolver is the way to go for sure. No jams, no frills, in a nervous situation there is no fumbling with a slide or a safty or whatever. I carry a S&W model 642 it has a concealed hammer so it doesn't get snagged on ur clothes. .38special+p cal.

I don't recomend 9mm for anything but murdering paper. It over-penetrates and doesnt cause enough trama. Usualy an in and out wound. That's why 99% of cops carry .40 cal. Not as slow as a .45 but had more punch than a 9mm.

Just my 2 cents. Also depending on if this is a purse gun or on her person I would also look at the Taurus 410/45LC revolver (judge public defender). It's a bit bigger than the 642 but 410 shotgun rounds will be easier to hit their mark as they spread.

Thats what I carry, and I absolutely love it!
I would also look into the S&W Governor because it also adds the option of using 45 ACP

I disagree. The only load worth carrying in the Judge for actual self-defense are 45 Colt based. The rifling throws any kind of multiple projectiles everywhere, diminishing it's usefulness. The specialty self-defense loads they market are a lot of marketing hype, plus they spread the energy of the shot over several different projectiles, making each projectile less effective.

The hammerless 38 would be great

I agree. The Judge is a worthless gun unless its the 45 colt. Its all hype. Even still then id rather get a 45 colt not waste time with the "judge"

I disagree yes the judge is no Target pistol but It is good for close range and I like the buckshot option for home defense because most people do not know how to clear a house. And what's better the firing one round and having 6 30 cal balls flying to a Target.

I carry Springfield XD subcompact 9mm and love it. My mom carries Springfiend EMP 9mm and it is absolutely perfect, I love it even more. She started out carrying S&W J frame .38 with laser sight, this was before she knew how to operate a semi-automatic in problem situations. You really can't go wrong with a wheel gun.
