I kinda am in a similar boat I have a GT40 intake that I would love to install but it is all cleaned and powder coated and doesn't deserve to be on my dirty engine so I am saving it for when I rebuild one of my 302 blocks. So I am just gonna drive with my motor how it is and save all my shiny parts for my rebuild. I would say if it is gonna take a while to save up for heads go ahead and throw those parts on, or just wait until it gets colder and do it over the winter.

You check engine light may come on if you remove EGR (mine did, at least until it was tuned). Good luck with your install, hope everything goes smooth!

1.7 roller rockers and gt40-or gt40p heads are what I would suggest in the future.
