My German Shephard had the same thing. Took a pill daily, lived a long happy life. Good luck

Typical for German Shepards to have that. It's sad that they are prone to it.

My dog has the same thing. he never had the surgery, he takes a pill everyday and he is fine. he's 8 now and they told us when he was a puppy that he would need the surgery on both hips. they say that since dogs are pretty much born with it, they dont know any different so they cope really well

Did the pills add up to be alot of $ because the surgery is around like 2500 to 3000

I think i pay like $54 for 60 pills. I usually give him one a day in the summer and two a day in the winter because of his arthritis. He didnt need the pills at all til a couple years ago. i started giving him glucosamine chondroiton when we first found out about it and i think that has helped some also.
