Yip folks that's right the S197 3V engine uses a bastard size plug thread. 16X1.5mm thread. Also uses a bastard size 9/16" socket (not 14mm, 5/8" or 13/16"). Any chance someone has a universal compression gauge set that has a 16X1.5mm adapter fitting that I could borrow? I live in Deer Park. If you live near the area and could part with the compression gauge for a few days I would be greatly appreciative. I have looked all over Cincinnati and no one has a comperssion guage with the thread size I need. Checked and no one carried a 9/16" spark plug socket either. Already verfied that 14mm will not fit. 14mm= 0.55" and 9/16 = 0.5625". Thanks

I will check my kit for the thread size I know I have several odd ones I never knew what they were good for. The plug socket I got mine in a set at tractor supply.

Sorry no luck just a few 14mm with different tops and a couple 18mm. You are prepared for the plugs to break and have to be extracted aren't you.

Already had them replaced with Brisk one piece back in March. No more worries on that issue thankfully. Thanks for checking on the gauge fitting. appreciate the feedback.

may want to check with advanced auto or autozone first for a loan a tool. if they are no luck try Matco or Snap on. They should have them or can get them.

Already checked. pep boys, Advantage, NAPA. No luck on anything but the standard stuff. Snap-On has the fitting with the quick disconnect for their unniversal gauge. Cost fitting fitting alone is $79.99. Too high for a one time use though low in price IMO for snap on. I figured their price on a fitting alone would be at least a C-note. Unfortunately with snap-on and matco unless you are in the same maintenance shop every day (unlike me field service) you can never find them. So I can never rely on "traveling tool suppliers" at all regardless of the need. THanks for hte input.

We have that fitting for our Snap-On compression guage. Should work fine with and compression tester. We are in Milford and would be fine loaning it to you for a night.

Man you are the greatest. (Of course all SBZ's know that). Could you PM me your address and phone? I would like to speak with you about getting it. My only concern is my currnet work schedule. Should I finish here in Cincy the next place is who knows. I would not want to keep it longer than a night as you have offered. Thanks. Chad

I guess my snap on set is too old for it. Wonder if I can update it by just buying the one adapter or if they changed the coupler on it. My set is probably from the late 90's when I bought it.

We bought it seperate and works with any compression tester with a long shank compressor fitting

Brandon - Thank you so very much for allowing me to borrow that adapter and 9/16" spark plug socket. . The compression values are all between 133 - 148 psi and that's with a cheapo comresion gauge I purchased to use with your snap on adapter. I took compreswsion checks a second time on the two lowest clyinders and they then raised to 139 and 143. May not have had a tight enough seal on the fitting. Also appreciate the use of the 9/16" spark plug socket. Turns out the last place I looked (Autozone) had one so I picked that one up for myself. IAW with the 2005 Ford Mustang Tech Shop manual the compression should be within 75% throughout all the pistons with respect to the highest reading. My cold engine check indicates that it is within 10% of the highest reading.
Final results - #1=148, #2=140, #3=145, #4=135/139, #5=133/143, #6=140, #7=145, #8=144. These numbers fall rightin the middle of the comression chart in the 2005 Ford Tech manual if I am reading it right. EIther way, the manual states that the coression should read with 75% of the highest cylinder compression sample andI am inside of 10% difference across the board. Not bad I would say on a cold engine.
Thanks again. I appreciate it very, very, much. Looking forward to seeing you at NMRA.
