I picked this up a few weeks ago. I bought it used, but it had only been fired 5 times. The model 99 is a single shot, no magazine 50 BMG bolt action rifle. The scope is a Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50 mil-dot with Barrett's B.O.R.S. system, which makes it easier to find your target accurately at varying distances.

A friend and I made it to the range yesterday to sight in the scope. We only put 12 rounds through it, but @ $5 a round, and heavy recoil, this isn't an all day shooter. The muzzle brake does help with the recoil, but it's still heavy. My buddy took his Rem. 700 in 7mm mag. I put about 10/12 rounds of 7 mag and 8 rounds of the 50 downrange, and though my shoulder didn't hurt, I knew i had been to the range, lol.

I want to try and get out to a range near Coshocton, OH that has a 600 yard, 1000 yard and a 1 mile range, but that will be later in the summer. I have never shot anything at those distances, that should be fun.

This pic is to give perspective, left to right, 22 L.R., .223 Remington, .308 Winchester, 50 BMG

A word to the wise, don't shoot it without the muzzle break.

I have no plans of removing the muzzle brake, I remember seeing a video on youtube where a guy removed his brake...he went flying, lol.

I doubt I can hit the broad side of a barn @ that range. But it would be fun to try.

That's a nice gun you got I don't need a gun that big by any means but I still can't help but want one. lol Bangingears like the video was a good laugh.

Let's face it, nobody needs a gun that big, but it sure is fun to have.

I don't see why anyone would even consider a smaller gun.

I remember hearing a quote of a statement a police officer gave during an interview. The reporter asked the officer why he carried a .45, The officer said "Because they don't make a .46". Good answer.

nice! i have wanted one forever. there are awesome guns. i think i will have to settle for a .338 lapua

Thats not going to be very comfortable to try to carry. You should have stuck with your LCP

ibstrokin

I like the lapua also, but I have a buddy that's building a 338 Rem Ultra Mag (rum), it's only 5% less powerful than the Lapua, and ammo is cheaper and easier to find, both are beasts. Last time I checked, the Lapua is more expensive to shoot than a 50.

Rob

yea its up there. i will be hand loading so it will save a little. i will have to look into that "rum" tho.

I got a chance to try it out at 1000 yards and 1600 yards. Distance shooting is hard, but fun. I was able to get on paper @ 1k, and missed the 1600 by about 25'.

Here is a pic of the 600 and 1000 yard ranges. The pic is zoomed in.

This is a pic from 1k back to the bench, not zoomed in.

This is a pic of the 1600 yard, zoomed in, if you look you can see a small orange steel target, I think the target is about 12"x12".

It's called Thunder Valley Precision, it's near Coshocton, OH. It's about 180 miles from Dayton.

Damn you have to have a Jeep just to put up your target when its that far away.

ibstrokin
06-29-2011, 04:41 PM
Big Red made it through there just fine, but it was rough, 4wd is a must. But, if you don't have a 4wd truck, jeep or a quad/gator, you shouldn't try it. My truck came back with mud on it, which just adds character.

It's a good thing I wasn't there. I would've made you sick when I made that 1600yd steel plate scream for mercy, lol.

Here's a pic of my brother's 50, it's made by Armalite, and has is coated in green teflon.

If you look at the pic of the 1000 yard range, there is a steel plate in front of the #10 target, it's about 8"w x 15"long, my brother hit it with his second shot after sighting in.

Whyucryn
07-23-2011, 03:29 PM
I probably would've hit it with my first shot...just saying!!! Lol

Instead of saying probably...get you a rifle and give a try, throw your hat in the ring. Reading the wind is a Bitch at that distance.
