Since I can't afford the bike I really want...

I'm looking at a Suzuki SV1000. Frustrated with my car situation, I have to get something a little fun.

Anyone have any opinions on the SV1000? I want something sporty, but still comfortable for my commute.

I had an r6 and it was very comfortable. Rode to work almost every day and could ride 8 hours straight no prob. I've never ridden the bike u are talking about but my buddy had one and he said it was quite comfy but he sold it to get something more sporty

I dont like the cross breed bikes. I either want a sporty bike or a cruiser. In my case I usually have both. I have had a bunch of both. Cruisers can be hell on your butt and lower back/ butt.(backbutt..lol) if you dont have the right seat. The ninja and R1 have been very nice on long rides for me. The one thing I have found for sure is get bigger grips. The little ones usually found on sport bikes kill your hands on longer rides. I have some on my shadow that feel like a real hand full and my hands never hurt. I have heard the busa is a very nice bike for long rides as well. Whats you budget on the bike? Me personally if I was going to have one bike and I was more interested in the sport bike thing I would hands down go the busa route. There out there for 5500 and up. Right now I am more into custom paint, low rider, hard tail, hit a bump going faster than 60 and you thingk your going to die bikes.. lol

Ive never ridden an sv1000 but have heard good things about them. I agree with sean though , if your more towards the sportbike side of things i would look at haybusas. They are definetly comfortable , like riding around on a lazy boy compared to my gsxr 1000. I had a zx9 ninja before my 1000 and i rode it the last 5 hours to daytona with no problems when our truck we were using to trailer the bikes puked a tranny .

Thanks for the good input guys...Busa's are a little above my budget. I could go that high, but I'd rather not.

This bike is going to mainly be used as a commuter. I had a ninja a long time ago (1989), it was a fun bike.

My last bike was a Magna...I think I need to ride a few and see what really appeals to me.

Anyone else have opinions on good commuter/sporty bikes?

The sv should be a good commuter, not full sport, great sound of a v-twin, less power than a inline 4, good handling and brakes. Ride one and judge for yourself.

It's a big SV650, which is good thing. The TL-based 1000cc V-twin is an absolute monster...imo it's more aggressive than a late-90s Ducati motor. The SV chassis is definitely built to a budget...pretty basic on the suspension, brakes, etc...but you really do get a lot of bike for the money and they're really comfortable if you want to put some miles on it.

Look for a RC-51. They are torquey monsters and have amazing sound. I havent looked for a while but last time I checked you could get one around $3500 to $4800. I thought it was aot more comfortable of a ride than my R1. See if you can find one for sale and go ride one you will fall in love. Just my thoughts.

I use to have an sv1000 and I loved that bike till I wrecked it. It handles great could ride it for 8 hours with no aches and pains and had a ton of power. Great bike in my opinion.
