I haven't shot a rifle in I dont know how long its been!!

I have Keith scrounging up a shop manual for it as its dirty as Hell and needs taken apart & cleaned.

I also took in a Romanian AK47 with 2 mags. Blake snatched that up before I could give him a price or take pics!!

It's an FAL, good rifle, many people prefer them to AR's (my brother being one). Here are a few stock options.

My brother (TZ250) has a lot of knowledge on FAL's if you have any questions on it.

Nice. But what about the Grip? This one-piece NATO butt/grip is a POS!!

Midway will have everything you need, just do a search under FN (the name of the original designer/manufacturer) or FAL. Yours was made by Imbel (kinda like buying a Bushmaster AR15, the AR is for Arma-lite...who designed it, but others make them also) and imported then had to have a certain % of American made parts (legal stuff). But if your doing a search, then use FN FAL. Or PM my brother who may have better resources for you.

This is a DS Arms Imbel FAL rifle, as you can see, they aren't cheap. The FN FAL rifles go for closer to $1800

BTW, take my info with a grain of salt, I know a little, but I'm no expert. As far as ammo, if you search, you can usually find surplus brass or Russian steel cased ammo for about .40-.50 cents a round. Good American ammo will be closer to $1 a round. Buy cheap, because target ammo will do little better than cheap ammo in most battle rifles.

Craig I would take it to a gunsmith and have it looked over very well before firing.

The importer CAI is Century Arms Incorporated and are known for very poor quality control. Some things imported them are decent and can be fixed to be just fine but most are done horribly and take lots of work to function reliable.

Once you get over those hurdles the FAL is an awseome .308 platform.

FAL... Very nice. This is one gun I would like to fire in the future. I hear they are very reliable. Good work:bigthumb

But what about the Grip? This one-piece NATO butt/grip is a POS!!

The stock/grip is from the Clinton era and was part of the assault weapons ban. One of the 'bad' features of an assault weapon, said the gov., is that they had pistol grips. If the manufacturer eliminated the pistol grip, they could have something else more desirable, like a removable magazine, threaded barrel, flash hider....

Yes and yes, Black92LX is correct. However, Imbel receivers have good reputations. L1A1's are inch pattern rifles. Your stock will not interchange with a metric pattern rifle. FAL parts are easy to get, but the supply is drying up. Magazines for inch and metric patterns are different, but both are plentiful and cheap.

I am a fan of FAL rifles.

I like mine and found my butt stock and pistol grip from tapco, or sarco. One of those. I will bring the manual with me next time I am up that way. Is this at the shop or at your house?
