Well, i think Chris knows i've gotta bust his balls just a little for taking an eternity to finish my car...but i've always believed good things come to those who wait and i think this is proof. It still has a few things left to be done, and cell phone pics hardly do the color justice but i couldn't hold out any longer...we're both pretty damn excited with how the color worked out on the car.

Funny, i don't have any pics of how the car looked when i dropped it off, because honestly it just looked like trash so i hadn't been taking many pics of it lately. I wasn't at all proud of it. I do have a couple pics from the first door swap i did, and it basically looked like this but with maroon doors instead of these red primer ones.

http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee275/EVIL85SSP/Mustang%20Pics%20and%20Videos/P5270008-1.jpg

Yeah, you can rock a primered paint job for a little while, and you can pull off that "all go to hell with show" look for a bit, but time and weather slowly turn that look into a "just got towed out of the junkyard" look.

Like a forest fire, sometimes you have to make things worse before you can make them better...so here's some progress pics. I was under the impression that, for a 25 year old car, it was in pretty good shape...that is until things started getting sanded on and the "truth" under all that old paint and primer started showing through.

At this point i'm pretty much ready to cry. It's been 15 months, i haven't driven my baby, and some of you might know that this car means a lot to me and it's really like a member of my family. I've had it so long and labored for so many years to make it into what i wanted it to be and it's been a long time coming.

I can only post 10 images at a time so...

Anyway i don't know why i'm typing since i know everyone has just scrolled down to this point anyway so here ya go....The color is a Lexus color called Desert Sage Metallic. Still not quite done and i can't stress how much cell phone pics just don't do the color justice, not to mention the crappy light it was in, but you get the idea..

Nice!! In the first repainted image I thought it was Vapor Silver but I have to say the green pretty slick on that! Certainly not a color I would have guessed in advance.

Side question - that your XR4Ti? I used to have one, fooled many people in that thing.

I'll still never forget after I moved in next to you and me and my brother were sitting on the couch playing Madden and I kept hearing this daum crotch rocket screaming up and down the street only to run outside and see you pulling back in.... think you were selling your heads or something.... but really looks good bro.....

Haha yeah, i don't know if that guy still posts on here or not, i was selling the old 302 out of it and he wanted to hear it run so i just took him for a drive and beat the living hell out of it to show it was a good engine. I think it ended up in a '95 Cobra or something. 7000RPM through an X pipe and Magnaflows has a funny sound lol.

ahhhh that's right that's what it was then shortly after you were up at kenny's putting your new motor in..... shortly after that I met Kenny and the rest was down hill lol it does look really good though D any plans for the interior?

Yeah, i have a guy who's been on me through emails for over a year wanting my blue seats to restore another '85 SSP so once i start piecing together some black interior parts it'll eventually get swapped and/or dyed black. The interior is probably gonna be the ugly part for a while though.

Funny thing is, i'm really not much of a green person. I wanted a gray or charcoal and black two tone but it seemed like every time i turned around someone else was doing the exact same color scheme i had in mind. Someone on here even sold an '85 that was painted exactly how i wanted it....and i just can't have the same paint job. Chris was throwing out ideas and it took me a long time to come around on the green color but when i saw this color on a few cars i was sold. I had another similar olive green color in mind originally but it didn't have quite as much character as this one. This color will almost flip flop in different lights...it's a pale gray green in the shade and then it'll light up like an olive in other lights.

good deal, restoration's take time, far from just a paintjob but god damn does it look good :cool2: i have a favorite 4eyed car now, enjoy it buddy your riding first class now:) your gonna need a haircut

Hey fuck you buddy i'm bald

So lets hear opinions on whether or not we should paint the grill/headlights black. I think i'm all about it, but it does look good the way it is. What i DON'T want is a black that's gonna get all chalky and shitty looking over time, or a black that's gonna get streaky when i wax it so if we do the grill it'll have to be something other than the paint we did the window trim in.

Here's an example of what i'm talking about. I think it works awesome with this year nose.

05-23-2011, 07:27 PM
I say trim it out in black, man. Monochrome custom cars died in the 80's. Use a good satin black, which im sure Chris will find the right one, and do all the trim. I think you'll be happier with it that way. I think it will give it more of an attitude. I say the door trim, belt molding, grille, and headlight buckets, door handles... the whole nine yards like you're restoring one.

Cars without trim repainted look unfinished to me. Bland if you will...

05-23-2011, 07:30 PM
I don't think the side molding is getting it but i'm pretty sold on the grill. I mean, the '82 GT didn't have it blacked out so it's not a bad look but i think it'll look more menacing with it blacked out.

Thanks everyone :)

Its cool when you have a vision in your head and it finally starts taking shape. Ive had a few people who have seen my car several times tell me how sick the nose looks on a coupe, and all i can do is laugh cause ive had this image in my head for about six years and now it finally comes together.

85_SS_302_Coupe

Well, finally got it running again...it fired right up with the Victor Jr. intake and new carb and idled nice and rowdy. It was sooo nice hearing my car again. I left plated's and couldn't resist dropping second and holy shit does it pull hard. Its so hard to tell if it's faster or not since i haven't driven anything with balls for a while, but man it felt stronger than i remember it ever being.

So then i almost put the damn thing into a bridge embankment on the way home. I leave Eastgate and it starts sprinkling....no big deal i've drove it in the rain before, but the drag radials are pretty much slicks now. All of a sudden it came down raining hard as hell, and i swear it was like the road turned to ice...the back end started swaying and fishtailing on its own, i wasn't even touching the gas. I couldn't even turn without the back end swinging around. So, i threw the flashers on and limped back to Walmart at about 20mph.

EAT ME MOTHER NATURE!! :flipoff:

Oh i'm keeping it, i just sold the Magnaflow tails to a buddy because i hated how they looked. I'm gonna order the chrome 2.5's that LRS sell. In the meantime, no tailpipes just let that lumpy idle come through more...it sounds pretty nice.

I sold the tailpipes because i had bought this awesome set of Mac mufflers and pipes from SOMEONE but then he needed them back for a while and i was supposed to buy them back, but then he SOLD THE WHOLE CAR

So today i finally get some sun to drive it around in, so i put my daughter in it for the first time. She'll be 3 in August and today is really the first shes ever seen of it. When i was putting her car seat in she started crying because it was already running and the sound had her scared. Then we strap her in and shes balling saying i dont want to over and over, then she has to hold mammas hand..lol

So i get moving and get out on a straight stretch and step into it some and i look back, and im shocked...shes got a big smile on her face and i look at mamma, she looks at me and i say, oh hell its on...so i dropped second and matted it...i look back at the top of third and she has both arms up rollercoaster style with a huge smile on her face.

So i slow down and when we stopped she says "i was like Jesse YEEHAAAAA!!" Thats a Toy Story thing...so i just about choked up lol. Shes a real mammas girl and we're almost even distant because of it but shes been all over me today and saying "vrooooooooom" all day.

:D

Saw this tonight in Eastgate, the pics don't do it justice. Thing sounded awesome as well.

Cool where did you see it? I was all over the place goofing off today. Since it was in Eastgate anyway, and i was watching the UFC fights tonight at the mall, we just all hung out and tooled around all day. I'm so damn happy with how it's running too...the Victor Jr. and Pro Systems carb are like night and day compared to what it ran like before. It's running pretty rich though..so i need some dyno time soon. The damn thing is just down right vicious...the harder you push it, the higher it revs, the more violent it gets. It really doesn't have a peak...this engine will rev as high as you have the balls to take it.

Also i've gotta thank Brad (pitbull1052) for letting me park it at his house over night. I tried twice to drive the damn thing in the rain on bald drag radials and both times at about 30mph the ass was swaying side to side hydroplaning so bad, i wasn't about to try to take it up to highway speeds.

Also i'd like to officially say to my neighbors, i'm sorry for waking everyone up at 3am...believe me, i TRIED to be quiet. ;)

You were sitting at the light getting ready to turn left on 32 towards 275 when I passed. I wasn't in my stang so you wouldn't have noticed me.

Not a bad pic for low light and on a cell phone. I wish that damned SSR wasn't next to me.

Needs put back in lol

I'm gonna pick up a couple others and wet sand and buff them. Still need to get the door handles put on too. I did get it to fit in the garage though.
