My 85 has an aftermarket alarm that came with the car. The key fob broke off my key chain and I had been carrying it around in my pocket.. Somehow I have lost the key fob. I can drive the car, but if my battery goes dead it will arm the alarm and then I am screwed.. At this point I just want to remove the alarm. I can do anything i want with car stereos, but alarms I am not familiar with. Does anyone have experience with alarms. I suppose I can just unplug the module but I am not even sure where it would be or if I can do that..
live in west chester,, if anyone can help plz let me know !!
Thanks
Mark

its probably mounted close to the fuse box, alot of the ones ive removed are tied into the wire that starts the car or goes with the ignition, trace the wires down once u find the module and start unhooking them 1 by 1 making sure the car will start each time u unhook a wire.depending on the quality of the alarm if its a good one then it may have starter disable, look at your starter relay under the hood and see if they have spliced a wire into it,its the little wire that has the 90 degree boot on it,that would be my advice,my number changed since u and i did our last deal, new number is 937 217 3394 jason

Hey Jason,
Thanks for the tips.. I know it does have the starter disable, and it also had a trunk release. will see if i can find the module and maybe if i am lucky it will tell me who made it. WOnder if I can get another key fob or another alarm will plug and play. I talked to the original owner who I bought it from and he could not recall, had someone put it on for him when he got the car in 85, i said geeeezz, that was only 26 yrs ago why cant ya remember. !! Thanks again, will begin my search

Its probably time for a new alarm anyway, why not just take it and have a new one installed and let them remove the old stuff?

If it worked good then I wouldnt worry about replacing it. 9 outta 10 times you can order a new remote as long as the alarm was a name brand unit. You should be able to find the maker and model on the module itself.

I would for sure try to find the maker and start looking for another fob. Taking a good alarm system off can sometimes be tricky and if you do the wrong thing you can run into all kinds of problems. The best advise I have seen so far is if you dont feel good taking it off yourself go somewhere and have someone who installs them look at it and put a new one on. With it being 26 years old I would thing it would be pretty easily removed though. Not real hi tek back then.
