When i pull into my garage in my 01 gt I hear tick tick. Its not the tick of a sticking lifter. I have heard the noise before but cant remember what it was. Its a faint soft tick. Runs fine and has no leaking or over heating issues. Really no issues at all.

Id still pull the valve covers off and take a look. not too much work and it will eliminate the lifters as a cause.

Do an oil change! Modulars are sometimes sensitive to oil breakdown. Most of the time its the lifters just not staying pumped up.

I Think thats what I'll do. What oil would you suggest. Has about 108000 on it.

I was gonna say 4v tick, but its not a 4v.... Maybe injectors, use some good 5w30 and a filter on it and you will feel better.

I notice some cars injectors are louder than others, not sure why? You may also check the exhaust manifold. I have heard ticking sounds come from bad exhaust manifold gaskets.

I know the oil was just changed but I dont know what he used. I will get the oil changed and go from there. It doesnt affect anything and doesnt get louder. I just dont like noises that dont belong. I do know that when the h pipe and mufflers go on that should take care of the noise as well.

Drain a qt of oil out, add a quart of transmission fluid. Drive 15-20 minutes, change oil. If that doesn't do it it could be a bad timing tensioner. I have silenced many lifters/lash adjusters that way.

lol. I can remember a loooong time ago freeing up stuck lifters with tranny fluid. Back then I just used to leave the tranny fluid in there.

I run a little trans fluid in all my motors, but then I really think the red substance pumping through my veins might possibly be transmission fluid. I am certain I have ingested enough for that.

Yip, agree with the injector tick. Took me a while to get used to hearing that. Def motorcraft 5w30 blend and motorcraft filter as well. :bigthumb

That is my hunch anyway basedo n what you are hearing. I was concnerned about it after I got mod 02 some years back, but turned out to be that to the best I could tell. A friend that is a auto tech concurred when he listened to it that the noise was merely the injectors opening and closing.

The injectors in my SRT4 ticked almost from day one.

Was a loose plug and bad boot. Put the plug back in and replaced the boot and it was good to go.
