View Full Version : Searching for the best driving roads

I've been watching Top Gear and I've seen four different episodes where they search for the best driving roads in the world. They have found some amazing roads. I know we don't have roads that can compete with the ones they found. I'd be happy with just a good local road. Since we are all car enthusiasts I would think a good road would benefit us all. My idea of a good road would be out in the country or less populated area, hills or a mountain side and allot of turns or even a scenic road would be nice. All within 100 mile radius of Cincinnati. Where are some of the best roads you have experienced? Please post directions and/or location of your road.

If your looking for a good curvy road Kentucky 19 & 10 are fun roads. Cincysportcars doa run once or twice a month on some nice roads for driving. they are not speeding so to say .....but they dont slow down for the curves...lol

Ky 22 from Falmouth to Williamstown is a fun one.

Ky 22 from Falmouth to Williamstown "is" fun but it's only 12 miles long, the better part is west of Williamstown, I should know, I ride a bike and seek out the types of roads you're looking for. Ky 10 is heavily cruised from Alexandria to Masville. The nice thing about that trip (not just the hilly curvy twisty turny parts) is that once you get to Masville, you can cross the river and come back by way of Rt#52, (an other nice ride) or jump over to the AA (Fairly straightroad) and shoot back to Cincy.

KY 10 and 22 are both great.

KY 19 south of Augusta

KY 36 from Cynthiana to Cave Run Lake

Pretty much any 4-number KY road is going to be fun, especially the further east you go. I like to go out with the GPS and just head down interesting roads, then use the GPS to find my way home.

Deal's Gap ( The Dragon's Tail), it's in Tenn. but its 318 turns in 11 miles. The Cherohola skyway is near there also, less twisty, but longer.

I like RT52 after New Richmond, tons of short misc. Roads out here in the country.

I want to do a trip down RT66 sometime after my Lincoln is back on the road...

I wondered if I was the only one that did that.

I do that as well! Me and my buddy will just take a couple hours and drive east/south/west, etc. trying to find good roads.

The Gap is now crawling with cops and people who couldnt drive a sharp stick up their own arse!! This was a great secret up until about 3 years ago, now its a damn tourist attraction and super dangerous due to less skilled drivers thinking that they are Mario Andretti:mad:

It hasn't been a secret for over 10 years. The Gap was awesome back in the 90s...little traffic, just sportbikes. Now most of the bikes down there are lardy cruisers and Goldwings.

There are a TON of great riding/driving roads nearby though. No matter what direction you point your car in, you'll find a good road. Wayah Rd in particular is one to check out.

US 56 from Aurora, Indiana to Madison is a nice stretch with little towns along the way to browse (including Rising Sun). Runs along the Ohio most of the way. The crown jewel at the end is Clifty Falls State Park just outside Madison for an afternoon of hiking, and a picnic afterwards. Clifty Falls Inn is a very nice lodge as well right there in the park. Sorry they don't allow pets.
