I have never liked mowing grass, some people do (that's fine), I don't. I have been mowing my yard for the past 8 yrs w/a 21" self propelled Troy Built mower, it usually takes me about 30/35 mins to mow. That may not seem too bad, bad while mowing it, all I hear in my head is "This sucks", for 30 minutes straight. I have been wanting a bigger/faster mower for a while, well... since Kevin (Flyin2jz) told me he mows his grass in 10mins (both of us have 1/4 acre lots approx.). He has a Toro 42" w/jungle wheels, it seems like overkill, but it stripes good and it's over quick.
Soooo, I finally bought the fix to my (perceived) problem. It's a Cub Cadet 760 ES (the ES version has a bigger engine and better frame and controls), which is a 33" 12.5 hp, 4 speed w/reverse, yellow grass mowing machine. I didn't want a huge mower, too big to store and my yard isn't thaaat big, and I didn't want a rider, because I think they suck (there are much better options out there). I really wanted a Wright or Great Dane 36" Stander, those are sweet, but $5G's.
So here is my best solution for my grass mowing wows.

NO F/I? LOL! NICE. I hate grass mowing as well. I have had my cub cadet for 10 years and no issues at all. Has a 7.5 HP Briggs on it. 24" cut. I mow 1/8th acre in 35 minutes to 45 depnding on if I edge and trim or not, and THAT IS TOO MUCH TIME MOWING!! LOL!!! Oh well, would rather have to mow and it be warm thatn to be scooping snow adn it be cold out. So whats a guy to do? Hope it cuts the time down for ya.

Thanks, my 30 min. mow time is just mowing, I weed eat and edge also, and though I don't like doing either of those, it doesn't bug me as much as mowing. My Troy Built mower has been flawless and I would recommend one to anyone, but it's a "bigger is better" thing.

@ Kevin...I drove it around the parking lot @ Tractor Supply, it moves at a brisk walk, but by no means running. In 4th gear it goes as fast as I would want it to, anymore would probably require a sulky.

nice i love it. The entire grass mowing thing is fun with a good mower. YOu may need to put a striping kit on it to get good stripes. very nice. The sulky is coming i can feel it. lol then you can cut way faster than you can walk. My neighbors laughed at me till i cut my grass in 8 minutes and they were sweating to death with the push mowers.
VERY nice. I have a riding mower but thats just because I like to play race car in my yard. It takes me about 20 min and when I am done it looks like hell.... but I always have fun. lol

Nice new unit you got there. I need a bigger mower too. I have a 60'' zero turn and it still takes over 2.5 hours. I may get a 48-60'' to pull behind my mower to try and cut down mow time.

Nice mower Brian. I enjoy cutting grass the first few times and thats it. It takes just about 4 hours with weed eating. I have a 42" John Deere 125 automatic. It gets old real quick after the 20th lap or so and the 5 acres doesnt appear to be getting any smaller.

Steve, you need a bigger mower, I would go crazy @ 4 hrs. The 100 series is a riding mower isn't it? I see a 60" zt in your future, lol. I think riding mowers are an old school/traditional way of mowing. The newer Wide Area Walks, zero turns, and standers can cut mow time considerably. I bet w/a 60" zt you would cut your mow time in half. But...they are expensive as hell.

Yeah probably, once I use this one and I know for sure that I won't need my old one for any detail work. I should know in the next few days and will let you know.

I couldnt imaging mowing with anythin else than what I have.Alittle over 4 acres is 2.5 hours with beer stops in between lol.
I hate mowing as well. $20 every other week to the neighbor kid solves that problem.

Greg, Rick is interested in looking at a Dixie Chopper, but I don't think he has priced them yet. I looked at a couple 60's yesterday (Ariens/Big Dog) they were $5k, and I'm sure Dixie's are more than that.

They are more $$$ but he'll probably never need another and they absolutely FLY. Pretty sure he has a DC dealer in Germantown too. Has he said what kind of money he wants to spend?
The DC 3060HP goes for close to 9k so I'm doubting he'll want to go there. Those Big Dogs look nice.

No, but he has a general idea of cost. And yes, there is a D.C. dealer on 123 near rt 4. We were talking mowers last night and he knows he wants a commercial grade.

Nice mower Brian......I have a 42 in yard machine for 3/4 of acre.....yeah it sucks. My neighbor has a Ferris zero turn with suspension...... I hate him everytime i mow and he comes out...lol...everytime i spend money on the bike or car......i think man that could of been a new zero turn mower...lol...priorities priorities...lol...Dixies all the way....there use to be a lawn care service that use to come to Delphi and they had two dixies....man those guys use to knock it out....

Thanks Mike, Dixies are bad ass, but they are proud of them. Someone should post a pic of Randy Quade's mower from the movie "Moving" (I think). That's a mower. Blown bbc.

Hustler zero turns are very nice. Their "residential" mowers are built very heavy duty. They are reasonably priced as well.

We're looking for a riding lawn mower, wife hates paying someone to mow our 2 acres out here, so she's looking for a rider right now that will double as a car tower for the shop as well. It's a win win! No mowing or pushing for me anymore, lol.

Don't doooo iiiiittt, lol. Riders suck, and they won't hold up in the long run if you have a lot to mow. TSC has a 42" Cub Cadet zero turn for $3k, rider mower money w/better performance.

I bought a John Deere Lawn Tractor for my 1.5 accres It does a decent job and I use it with a plow and spreader. I am beating the crap out of that thing. I picked up a used comercial ZT and It is so much nicer cutting grass. When I was looking it seemed like Bobcat and Hussler were Good residential Zero turns. Mine is a Xmark it is way overkill for my lawn but I should never need anouther. The difference between the xmark and the lawn tractor is unreal. I wish I would have skipped the lawn tractor in the first place.

Nice walk behind.
That model is made and marketed in several iterations and option packages (craftsmen, troybuilt, and a few store brands). Check the deck for a brake shoe on a lever. On some models When the PTO is disengaged a lever comes over and places a brake shoe against a pulley to stop the deck from turning quickly. I purchased a craftsmen version a few years ago and after 15 months the shoe sheared the pulley in half(pulley was a thin stamped POS). Not a huge deal if the part didn't take 9 weeks to get in the height of spring mowing. If you mower has the lever just cut it off and let the blades slowly spin to a stop after disengagment instead of having a brake to stop them. Fab yourself a stripe bar and let the grass fly. Enjoy.

Well I got home from work today and saw the neighbor cutting grass, knowing it's supposed to rain the next couple days, I figured I might as well mow. I got it done in 17 mins, and that's stopping to talk to the neighbors twice, and tightening a battery bolt that was loose. So I figure I can mow the grass in 12-13 mins w/no interruptions, that's a lot better than 30/35 mins. I will say that in 4th gear it moves quick and keeps you on your toes.

Yea there are two types of people. The ones that cut grass and the ones that mow the lawn. Very distinct differences between the two when it comes to grass.

Looks good Kenny. If my yard was a little bigger, I would be all over a zero turn. Actually that's the only thing I don't like about mine, there isn't any left/right control other than you pushing/pulling it. But considering the price range, what can I expect. It still cuts my mow time considerably.
Btw..mine has a striping kit, basically a plastic mud flap that dangles in front of the axle.
