My wifes Jeep had some seriously clouded headlights and I had been meaning to try and buff them out for quite some time. Well today I got bored and decided to spend a little time on them.
Here is a before picture of one of them, granted the car is a 99 and they were in really really bad shape.

Did a practice on the VW before I did hers correctly. Although mine didn't turn out nearly as well, I only spent about 10 min on it.

If you decide to buy the setup which I highly recommend, do yourself a favor and wetsand during the second stage, I took me 3 headlights to figure that out and it made the process so much smoother! :cool1:
I used a similar kit (not sure what brand) and wetsanding was part of the instructions. but just like your pictures show, it makes a heck of a difference.

The 3M kit works well and is worth the cost. I just used it sunday to do the headlights on Jenn's dd cavalier. Only one side was really bad..but now they look like new.

I swear by the 3m kit. It absolutly makes a big difference. You are suppossed to wet-sand with the grey pad. The rest is just pulling the trigger.
Good Job man, Looks Good!

Thanks I was really impressed with how well it worked. I was talking about wetsanding with the second sanding pad, then wet again with the grey pad (which I still havent figured out whats on it). Give it a shot next time!

I've also been curious as to how well these work, been hesitant but after seeing how you have done I'm going to invest in a kit. Does the kit come with the sanding stuff or is it just the buffing stuff?

Yep, comes with everything you need. I'm currently looking for replacement sanding discs with a velcro backing.

you can buy them through savage/koi auto parts. you have to buy them in bulk though. I was thinking of something that i could adapt and make my self. Basically cutting the circles out of some sand paper and getting some temporary adhesive and glueing them on. Just an idea though.

Jesse (stangman) directed me on how to restore headlights.
I actually got the meguiars kit and tried it. I ended up wetstanding them out, polishing out with the old school toothpaste method. Which worked great until they were outside. I used a turtle wax headlight kit restore wipe on them, then finally the other weekend buffed the hell out of them.

Man, that's impressive Rick. I figured that 3M kit was too good to be true. WIll keep that in mind for future detailing. Thanks.

are you talking about the 3m stuff or something else? I have cars that I used the 3m kit on and they have looked good for about 3 years now. It's not just a scuff and glaze with some clear coat. You actually sand the lights down and polish out the plastic. I am a little confused on what will not last.

Let me rephrase that. If u use it and put it back outside it won't last. We do it all the time for customers for free when we work on their cars and it will come back three months later looking like we never did it. Temporary fix
