What cam is best to use for a stock 5.0 5speed? what's the difference in the E,B,F,and X 303 cams from FRPP? The entire motor is stock, let me know.

Bone stock, honestly the stock cam is pretty decent as far as making torque goes. When you start swapping in more lift you usually give up a little bottom end. Personally, i think the alphabet cams are old tech and there are way better cams out there to choose from. If you still have the stock intake and heads, i would just leave the cam alone. If you get some GT40P heads and a Cobra intake, i'd swap in a Trick Flow Stage 1...that'd wake it up real nice.

GT40/GT40P heads are production iron heads....the GT40s were used on the '93-95 Cobras and up to mid '97 on 302 equipped Explorers/Mountaineers, as well as the 351W Lightnings (although with a 1/2 inch head bolt) and then they switched to the GT40P head on the mid '97+ Explorer/Mountaineer. The P head has a revised combustion chamber that has the spark plug pointed toward the center of the bowl, which puts the plug at a funky angle which can cause header clearance issues so you may need to buy specific headers to run those heads.

I've heard people say either version are better. The P's have smaller exhaust valves, but supposedly have better exhaust flow/velocity. The P's also have slightly smaller combustion chambers which will give you a slight bump in compression ratio. According to Robin Lawrence, the '96 non P heads are the best flowing of the bunch, but in the magazine article he said that in, he didn't say why.

Lots of guys on here have ran deep in the 12s with P heads and Stage 1 cams. They're a very good match.
