Find #1 on the distributor cap and make a mark with a sharpie under the cap, on the plastic the cap sits on. That way when you take off the cap you can line the button up with your mark for the #1 cylinder. Rotate the motor over by hand (my preference) with all the plugs pulled out. I use a straw to check and see what the piston is doing, when it reaches the top of it's stroke I drop the distributor in with the button pointing directly at the mark you made. Put the plugs back in it and it should fire.

Also look at your balancer to check yourself, it should be right at zero when you drop it in.

the piston will come up twice make sure you get the compression stroke.

well good thing is it should just be the intake gasket. the heater cores ain't that bad either. just bypass it. since you know were your distributor needs to be just mark it.

sounds like the intake gaskets may have slid down. take a little silicone and put it around your water ports and that will help seal and hold them in place also. wish i was closer i would give you a hand. we all have been there at some point and it is agravating when that sh.. happens. good luck....

man ive been there and i know what a pain it is to swap intake gaskets over and over again, the best thing ive found to do is an intake stud kit from arp, this eliminates the chances of it sliding around when you set the intake on. and dont use the front and rear gaskets use a thick bead of silicone. Make sure you torque them in the proper sequence to 18-20ft lbs.

Studs are a good idea just don't use "the right stuff" sealant if you stud it. I always use 2 screw drivers to align mine when I'm dropping it in place, one on opposite corners to line up the holes. 2 people is also a good idea if you haven't done it a bunch.

I'd use right stuff if u never ever want it to leak. Trust me on this. Just don't use studs or u will pay the ultimate price.

try seeing if the orange wire on the back left is grounded. that's the injector ground

That's the O2 heater ground, the car will run without that hooked up, just not well and it's not recommended.
