I am planning on getting an on3 kit for my car, and i have discussed with mike bell since he is a dealer for them. I am just wanting to throw a feeler out there as to if i ge tthe kit, should i upgrade to the master power turbo or just keep the "cheapy" turbo included? just wanting to see what the opinions were??? I am planning on going with the 70mm because it will make enough power with that to hurt the motor vs. going with the 76mm

I wouldnt run a generic turbo although I dont know what it comes with. The masterpower turbo's have built a good reputation.

I have the on3 kit for the 4.6l. are you putting this on a fox? The Fox kits are dectent but the 4.6l kits suck until they come out with the reverse facing headers. I reworked all my piping because I didn't like where it was all routed.

Those kits are ok. i have the master power turbo that they sell but I would definately make sure that you get one the is 70mm w/ .96 ar. This will let the car spool good and give you the best power curve. I have a .68ar on mine right now and for a modular it's OK but I wish that I had gotten a .96 or so. Other than that the kits are made pretty good.

I also have a question on that?? my car is a 5.0 and not a 4.6 so dont you want the small one so it spools faster and bc my car doesnt rev as much as a 4.6

i am just going to keep the spring in it as the boost controller, insted of putting a manual in it lol to be safe from me wanting to turn it up

yeah, the spring is all thats in mine right now. once you install it and get it tuned, you definately wont regret it. the .68ar will spool quick. mine is at full spool @ 3400 rpm. the .96 ar would full spool at like 4500 rpms. Its just better for staying in the power curve were mine drops off around 5500 rpms. I hope this helps.

My buddy Jason had a .68 ar exhaust housing on a 347, spooled quick and made good power through 5800 or so. 500 hp at 3k sounds great to me, lol. Dunno if it will do that good, but the thought of it sounds good, doesn't it? lol. So anyway, I say go with the masterpower, jmho. If budget is your main concern, then stick with the kit turbo, they are a crap shoot, and not my choice, but there are a bunch of them out there running right now with no issues. jmho.

yes there are a lot of the cheapy turbos running, but im afraid of the turbo failing internally and then getting all that crap in my engine. Also that full boost at 3400 sounds fantastic, sounds like a tire frying goood time!

i wouldnt be afraid of that. if the turbo for some unexplained reason malfunctioned, your intercooler would stop 90% of it. I am building my car to about 600 rwhp and calling it. I dont know what kind of power your wanting to make, but in my opinion turbo is one of the best ways to do it.

i am aftaid of all the metal shavings or something getting in my oil pan from the turbo return line, and then my pump picking it up and spreading it though the engine

it wouldnt.... I have only seen a couple turbos fail that bad and all it did was lock up. The oil is being run over the shaft that the impellers are hooked to. If you have any shaving in your oil, the oil filter will protect your engine.

gotcha, my set up will consist of cobra heads, trick flow stage 1 cam, system max intake, 60lbers and a 255 witha boosta pump helper. might put aftermarket rails on it, got some 5.0 rails laying around with some fittings

Just remember, turbo and cheap does not go together. Unless you are saying "Turbocharging your ride is anything but cheap". That being said, id take a used Vortech s-trim over that on3 stuff any day of the week.

lol i know from first hand experience that turbo and cheap dont go well together....i like the super charger idea, but i had a turbo car before and loved the way it sounded when spooling. It though had a holset on it. I am just curious to see what people would do if the were in my shoes, either run a masterpower or stay with the cheapy turbo thats in the kit. Its only a difference of 329$

Just go with the Master Power. They are a cheaper turbo but they are proven to last a while. There are others out there but for the money they are good. Just to give you an idea....my numbers in my sig don't lie. Those are with just 12 psi of boost.

its just how they spool. mine starts to spool @3100 and is at full spool at like 3500-3600rpms. the .96 ar will spool about 500-1000rpms later but it will spool longer in the power band

wouldnt i want a smaller housing since my motor doesnt rev as high as mine??? or does the boost run out like youve hit a wall on the rpms with the smaller housing

Your rpm estimations could vary greatly on a number of things. Engine, cam, tune etc... Bottom line is the pressure ratio between the exhaust and compressor will be lower with the .96. The spool diff will be marginal at best. OP, do the .96.

cool, thanks for the info, i could always buy another exhaust housing. I just want a nice entry lever kit so i can do trial and error kind of thing and still have fun doing it

FYI, the v-band position in relationship to the t4 flange differs between a/r dimensions. What that means is if you have your kit built with a .68 then swap to a .96, the downpipe will fit like shit. This holds true for the opposite. Trial and error is a costly and giagantic pain in the ass. Do it right the first time, it will be cheaper in the long run.

Who is people? I hardly see anyone running a .68 a/r exhaust housing on a 302. Keep in mind, you're combo more than likely isn't going to get any smaller. Say you want heads, then cam and intake, etc. Like Walter explained, start with the .96.

When i got my kit they didnt have two different choices. If i had the choice i would have got the one that replaces your headers

OH.....they must of changed it then?? I was looking at them a whlile ago and by buddy baught a kit and he chose between two housings....my mistake for thinking that they offered two housings
