I recently acquired a 90lx with a mint black interior that I have been looking for to swap into my 89 gt. I just wondered how difficult it was to remove the dash from the car and reinstall it?? Has anyone done this and have any tips or rough time frame to remove and install the dash.

Not really looking forward to this.

Thanks
Chris

the only real differences in the dash the fuse panel is in a diferent spot intead of behind the panel on the 89 it is under the dash on the 90 and the 90 is a airbag car its not that bad to swap

Yea I knew the 90 was an airbag car.. Not really worried about the working airbag just want the looks of a black interior...

when i replaced my heater core it took me about 4 hours to get the dash off and get it all back together. its pretty easy the hardest part for me was the putting the cluster back in.

I have had the cluster out several times replacing the speedo cable and then taking it back apart because the plug for the fuel gauge was not all the way plugged in. consider it lesson learned.

You will want to reuse the wire harness from your 89 and scrap all the airbag stuff. Just reuse your cluster and steering , an afternoon later and your done. .

i would use every thing out of the 90 wireing harness air bag column and all its easier to do than changing your wires and i think the air bag wheel looks better than the tilt and your computer harness will still plug in on the 90 dash harness.

I had planned on using the 90 wheel and cluster because it is a 140 speedo. and I do like the looks of the wheel as well. I just have to multiply all of this by 2 because I am going to put my dash back into the 90 lx car the make it a driver or sell it when I swap interiors.

Just make sure you unbolt the dash, which is the plastic AND the steel underneath. I have a car sitting here where the guy unbolted the plastic from the metal, it's not going to be fun to put back together.
I have never had an 89 computer harness work in a 90 car, so not sure this is going to be a plug and play. Are both cars v8's?

it is really easy when u pull the dash unplug all the wires out under the hood that is going through the firewall and keep it with the dash in the 90 and do the same with the 89 just putt it back the same way u took it apart really not that hard. you will know what i mean when u get started.

it is a v8 to v8 car... not sure on build date of either. I am sure I will find out once I get it torn apart.
