Well this section is usually pretty dead, so ill make a build thread for myself. Its not much of a build, just a lot of bolt ons. Ill update this as I slowly make progress.
Im trying to make as much power n/a as possible on a tight budget, and go 12.5s or better. So far this is what im trying to do
-K&N CAI
-Ported intake
-full exhaust
-possible 1/2 intake spacer
-possible 96-98 Cobra cams or custom grind
-tune
-frpp 03/04 Cobra diff
-aluminum driveshaft/loop
-31 spline axles
-4.10 gear, are the motive or richmond the good gears?
-275/40/17 drag radials
Im hoping to make around 320rwhp, if I do either cams then more like 340+rwhp.
On my budget this is probably as much or more than I can do this summer. So far all I have is the exhaust and the CAI, im working on tires right now. Im also thinking abut taking some weight out of the pig

I would certainly imagine with all I listed I could take off about 1/2 second from my current time slip,
but I should just scrap my car and buy an ls1 camaro though right?

The FRPP are the ones that worked for my 02 so well. According to sources the Motives like to make some noise on ratios above 373. Know nothing about Richmond. 410 is a great gear for that car. May be wasting money on 31 splines though if only running drag radials. I'd get an experts opinion though and go on that. The money could be put else where (like an alum DS) if 31's might be considered overkill unless more serious changes are in the making in the near future. JMO. Good luck.

Id go 430 gears I got 373s and wish I would have went 430s, ran out of money snapped an axle in the IRS had a new st of 373's for my fox so just used em in the cobra. Definately no lower than 410's though, do you already have a CAI if not Id look into JLT. I have heard on www.svtperformance.com that the upper intake spacers work well for the Mach's and have been looking into them myself, not sure if porting the upper intakes on these or even 99-01 Cobras help or see as much of a gain as 96-98 Cobras, also possibly look into some upper and lower control arms.

I think your goal of 320 is easily possible... my buddy had a mach with full exhaust and an intake and after a tune it put down 326. the long tubes apparently help thoes cars alot!

I know the 31 splines may be a bit overkill, but I dont want to be one of the horror stories that broke the stock axles on drag radials. As far as the intake spacer, id say it would help on the 01 Cobra as well. Theres arguments about them doing little to nothing, but some people swear by them. It costs 100 dollars, its worth a shot. Idk what a full k member with control arms runs, but if I was going to replace that, I should have done it during the header install

Ive heard of 12s with full exhaust 430s and drag radials to, A tubular K-member and A-arms will drop like 26lbs off the front end of the car which would help some shaving weight off it.

The 31 spline axels are not over kill. If you settle for 4.10's get nothing but FRPP gears. They really don't cost any more and as long as you don't have a complete idiot set them up they should be quiet. However, the 4.30's would be a better choice. Don't fear the gear.

threads still here. The way it sits:
-Shifter
-QA1 k member, stock a arms (or fox, not sure yet)
-Mac long tubes, lethal o/r x, and magnaflow cat back
-Moderate custom ground cam
-3/8 intake spacer
-K&N cai
-probably a ported upper intake, we'll see how the initial dyno numbers go.
Here is a pic of the motor, just got it back today from a friend I had do the work. The cams were degreed but I dont know the exact specs

based off what other Machs put down with the same mods, 350 rwhp should be the baseline. If it doesnt do that ill be pissed.
just cleaned the motor up today, took out the sway bar. It was sprinkling rain today so I didnt try to figure out the k member like I wanted. It sits in the garage but has to be rolled out for room to work

So what did u take off a year on it then get back to it?
first off, had major issues putting in the Cobra cams which was the original plan. Found out I had a head gasket issue so pulled the motor. Starting thinking about a turbo kit, bought parts, lost interest, sold parts lol. Then talked a lot with a local guy about the cams, and figured ill have a nice idle and good performance, so thats what i went with. Im not currently in school and working full time so the budget is a lot better.
The game plan is get it running. This winter get suspension parts and any little things I want to change. Shooting for 11.9xs next season. When the rear end goes or i get money then go with big gear 31 spline set up.

Yeah definitely keep the seats. Its something special to the Mach. Same story with mine having special seats being a Anniversary Edition. Id love to go with some Terminator seats but then Im taking away from the uniqueness that makes it a limited edition.

So what happened is; I attempted to run a QA1 k member with STOCK a arms and figured id use the stock hardware. Im not because, #1 the k member was pretty cheapo made, #2 the hardware to be used in the control arms had to be so small it would be stupid, #3 it changes my suspension geometry and cause the wheels to stick out about an inch more on each side and lowers the car an inch, so its a pita the find the correct springs for the front to lower how I want. In the process of getting it in and out with one person, I had only 1 side attached and let it hang with the weight of the k member itself on it, and it actually slightly bent the tab that bolts go through.. (pics later)
That being said, I was gonna sell it in the spring and get coilovers anyways, so its not a huge order.
Why it took 3 hours is I didnt know you cant/its next to impossible to instal the engine with long tube headers already on it. I know it can be done with an after market k member, but shit, the headers were caught and dragging all over the stock k member and causing all sorts of problems. The motor was tilted up then down, then headers rubbed the k member, engine bay, floor pans... Its in though, so im happy

-Moderate custom ground cam
The cams were degreed but I dont know the exact specs
Cam are custom grinds (close to comp 106100 specs) and are installed at 108/113 if I remember correctly. I prefer them being installed a little wider but Ben wanted a rough idle. These exact cams have been installed in two other combos and bot are making 360rwhp with only LTs and a CAI.
Ben, the harness that goes to the #1 injector and a/c has to be routed under the intake manifold. I may be out of the area on Sunday, but if you're available saturday evening I can bring the car down for you to check out.

Ford... :( $100 for the lower intake gasket. Jeez. Got some needed info on running the wiring harness, so im hoping to have everything wrapped up in the engine bay wednesday, and bleed the brakes. Then sunday trans/clutch instal and fluids, then ill try to start it up!

10-18-2012, 01:18 AM
wrapped up the motor tonight. Had a major hang out with the brake lines. They were bent during removal and it took me like 2 hours to get all the lines and master cylinder on... Sunday is going to be the planned start up date. Cut the springs a coil in front, as you can see it sits a lot lower than stock.

So...what a living hell last night, and really all day today...
Attempted to instal the transmission last night, and long story short,, its impossible to do with the headers on. With a lift maybe, but i couldnt get enough angle on it with the car on jack stands. So... attempted to remove the passenger side header (the starter slot on the transmission is what cause all the crazy rubbing/non fitment issues on this header). And after an hour of that, determined it was next to impossible... the last bolt closest to the firewall had 0 room to turn a wrench or get a ratchet on it. Sooo... heres what must be done
#1 remove stock k member (which was never supposed to be used but had issues with the QA1 tubular)
#2 remove passenger side header
#3 reinstall k member (otherwise the motor wouldnt have nearly enough support)
#4 instal the transmission
#5 remove the k member again
#6 finally reinstall the header
#7 reinstall the k member for the final time....
:( total headache but idk what else to do. Come spring time with a new k member all these problems should be solved and tons more clearance around the engine
