Ok, I am going to attempt next weekend to replace both wheel bearings and put in my 4.10's. First question is what gear oil should i use and how much? Friction modifier? For those of you that have done their own gear install, is it pretty straight forward? Is backlash the movement of the ring gear from side to side after it is completely installed? I am assuming that i can use the mhd to find pinion depth correct? What should my runout on the ring gear be? I'm sure i will have more questions after get started.

Well you will need 3 quarts of 80w90 gear oil and one bottle of friction modifier. That can be found at any parts store. The Backlash is the movement of the ring gear side to side. Depends on what kind of gear you have as to how much backlash you need. The pinion depth also depends on what gear you have if you are using a ford motorsport gear and it has a motorsport gear in the car or the factory gear usually you can use the old pinion depth shim on the old pinion and it will get you right where you need to be. If it is a motorsport gear you back lash should be .012-.015 is where I have always set them up at. Never had a problem. As for the wheel bearing I am guessing you are talking about the Axle bearings they are easily removed with a slide hammer and the proper tool to remove the bearings. just gotta be carefull when installing the new ones not to bend the bearing and then you gotta buy another one. Hope this helps you.

Check with CincySpeed. They sell a kit that contains all the parts you might need.
