I've been thinking about doing this for a few months now. I've always supported our troops and their efforts. With todays economy nothing is a given. Leaving all of my friends and family especially my wife and son is going to be the hardest thing I've ever done but it will be worth it in the end. I've always wanted to start my own electrical business and once this is over I should be able to do that. I will be doing electrical work on all the bases over there for a minimum of a year. If things work out I might stay a couple years but we will have to see about that. I look forward to picking Mike's brain for some pointers to stay alive. I hope everyone will support me and my family through these times.

Thanks,

Kris Rachford

Good Luck to you over here. I am currently in Kandahar. I suggest you pack very light and then have everything shipped over here from home. Have you wife send it as soon as you know where you are going to be first. Only takes 7 days for stuff to get here through the postal service. Do not send it UPS or FED EX. Will take forever. If you have any questions PM me and I will try to answer them best I can. Good Luck and stay safe

I am deprocessing and repairing Max Pro trucks mainly. Sounds like you are on the right track by sending out your foot lockers already.

Show the enlisted military ranks over there the respect they much deserve and they will watch out for you. Remember you are there to provide them a service and assist them in completing their mission first. Good luck.

Maps are not available out of the country. It's for security purposes. I am sure some idiot has them for sale on the internet somewhere. Once you get in country, there will be maps everywhere in the secure offices. I was all over afghanistan for 19 months, I am glad to be home. Helping the soldiers is primary, just keep that in your sights and focus and you'll be ok.
Good luck and stay safe. Keep your mind working while your there.

Kandahar is not much better, worse in some ways, lol. Like the smell. They have a lot of different dfacs and they have the boardwalk. Are you going to a smaller base from there? I think they have greatly improved the housing for contractors there. So how do you like it so far?

Kandahar is better than Bagram for me because all of the a$$hole managers are in Bagram. Yeah the smell and dust are not good here. Yes I'll be here for a few weeks and then I'll go out and start FOB hopping to the smaller bases. So far I like it but the real test will be out on the FOB's as I'm sure you know.

Yep, I know, but I liked the smaller fobs, just for the reasons you didn't like BAF. KAF is cool, lots to see and do if you have the time to do it. I liked it when I was there, had wheels and work was not too bad. I came home after they sent me to BAF, wasn't worth the hassle, I am not a kiss ass, so going home was the best option, lol. Stay safe, enjoy it, try to set yourself goals, keep sane, and come back safe. I liked seeing how many aircraft I could fly on, that was one of the things I did to keep sane.
