Hobby town is still around and I did the plane thing and if you are arrogant or stupid it does get very expensive. Parkzone has a few and they rate them on how hard it is to fly. I found that the ones that have wheels and take off that way are best. The ones that you just throw and go are hard to learn on and easy to crash. After destroying 2 planes i got one called the commander or firebird. It is a left and righ only. Give it more power you go higher less you go lower. You can still wreck it but its very forgiving and inexpensive. For at or a little under 100 dollars you have everything you need to go fly.

just went to hobby town usa today, didnt see any drag cars :(

did see some of those planes you were talking about though sean, they are pretty inexpensive but i would like to try out one of the full control ones. I think the rc plane simulator would be the cheapest route lol you have any of your wrecked planes you wanna sell?

There's a place in Miamisburg that does slot car racing. He has a drag strip and several other road-type courses. Some of them are pretty amazing.

We build a lot of planes, I can make a flyable plane (minus electronics) for like 2-3 bucks. Once I crash one, I just build another and swap everything over.

Scrap built foamy plans are the only thing that motivate me to fly. I wouldn't want to fly if I had a fear of breaking them every time they went up. I'm more into slow fly park planes, but we have some 3d foamy planes that can do stunts, I just never had any luck with 3d flying so I built and broke a few.

The best place to get parts for planes is on hobbycity.com. You may wait for a while to get everything (sometimes the parts are warehoused in the usa), but mostly in China and could take 2-3 weeks to ship. You can buy lightweight servos for $2-3 each, 2.4ghz receivers for $7 (just find someone that wrecked an eflite plane and buy their transmitter). They do sell kits there, the EPP foam planes are almost crash-proof. The key things with these planes is weight. Pair the right servos, receiver, battery, motor, and prop and you'll get more flight time.

My dad has several Excel programs he has wrote or downloaded along the way that help calculate flight time, load on the motor, etc... We've got it down to a science now.
