What cam can you run in a speed density set up? I am not good at wiring and the maf conversion requires wiring....So i am just gonna throw a cam in it for now....Thanks for the help....

b is the biggest you can run if you want it too run right

Not really a cam you can run that will make a difference if you dont change it to mass air,if you cam it, you will probably never get it to run right with the speed density. Its not that bad to change one ive read, havent had to but after having several mild built fuel injected motors, and a efi stroker motor, i have a carbed ex 4cyl car, its got a cam and stuff runs ok, but the efi is 100 times better especially if your gonna be drivin it alot. Research it online and ask some of the guys on here how to do it.:bigthumb

Cant you just get an 88 or 89 ECU harness and swap it out? If so I think I have one...

jack90gt
01-12-2011, 11:07 PM
You need the ecu and meter and the pigtail for the maf sensor. But the article I read said something about you had to repin the computer and move a couple wires... If I could just get a ecu and sensor and pigtail and plug it all in and call it good I will do it... It would have to be a 5 speed ecu too...

In my opinion It would be much easier to swap out the ECU harness and ECU. I just threw away a stock maf, I know I have a computer that will work, and im pretty sure I have the harness... Someone correct me if im wrong.

jack90gt

Now the ecu harness that is the big plug that plugs into the computer right? Doesn't that control everything?

Blowpastyou
01-12-2011, 11:37 PM
no, it goes out into the engine compartment, one runs over the strut tower, and the other runs over to the driverside on the fire wall. I think all you have to do is swap the harness out, put a mass air ecu in, and put a stock meter in... If you can that would be alot easier than repinning the harness.

jack90gt
01-12-2011, 11:45 PM
Yeah and that's what the article I read said you had to do... I was like hell no... Lol

Blowpastyou
01-12-2011, 11:46 PM
Its actually not nearly as bad as you think.

93snake
01-12-2011, 11:49 PM
Its really easy, plugs only go one way and wires lay out in the engine compartment pretty simply.

Thats the only way to learn... Dive in and get dirty....Well actually this should be a clean job... well you get the point.

Don't put a cam in it. Put a victor5.0 intake, headers, pulleys, 1.7 rockers and it should go some high 12's na. Then spray it!!

jack90gt
01-13-2011, 02:06 AM
Well I just picked up some bbk long tubes and o/r h pipe and underdrive pulleys... Lookin for some 1.7 rockers now. Your talking about the Victor 5.0 fuel inj intake right?

Metcalf Racing
01-13-2011, 02:24 AM
That would be the one. You will have to grind it to make it fit but absolutly the best way to go

jack90gt
01-13-2011, 02:28 AM
Ok I will start looking for one of those then... Then would you suggest a tune and about a 150 shot???

Metcalf Racing
01-13-2011, 02:40 AM
I wouldn't waste my money one a tune. Is find someone who knows there stuff and have them tune it for you. And yeah 150

you can use a automatic computer for a 5 speed car but you cant use a 5 speed computer for an automatic unless it has a manual valve body.. :bigthumb

Back Then the ECM didn't do anything with the AOD. I would throw a good intake and gt40(p) heads on it and leave the can stock. Easy mid 12 second car NA the spray it if you want more like metcalf said

Nice catch Tim :bigthumb

Jack dont worry about putting a cam in, like everyone else is saying do intake&head swap ;)

thanks everyone that's what I am gonna do. I will wait on the cam. My buddy was talking to ed curtis about a custom grinde as so it wouldn't mess with the computer to much....

I would leave the stock cam in it with 1.72 rockers
Lots of ways to get to your goals. I still like the gt40 heads and explorer cobra intake. You can get a junk yard explorer engine for the price of a new aftermarket intake

jack90gt
01-19-2011, 11:55 AM
yeah I think that's what I am gonna do as custom grinds are salty.... Lol

I'm all for an explorer motor but you will be way impressed with the victor.

Id either carb it or just do the mass air swap, but hey let me know if theres anything I can find you thats worth shipping.

jack90gt
01-19-2011, 08:55 PM
yeah I did brandon he said he would hold them for me so I can just pick up a bunch of parts at once here in a couple weeks.... That's when I am going to be able to get that way....

you have to be careful on which harness you use because where the headlight harnessplugs into it.ford switched the ends around be careful and make sure all the plugs will plug in before you waste your time. i learned the hard way
