View Full Version : Anyone know anything about HID projector lights?

I'm conjuring up a little project for myself to improve light output on a vehicle of mine. However the headlight housings on the car are extremely short, as in, they are about 3 inches tall, if that, and the lense is long. Probably 8-10 inches.
I'm hoping someone knows the "shortest" HID projector out there that could fit in the headlight housing's height.
What car would they come out of? BMW? Audi?

I've seen em all over Ebay but I have a size constraint. What's the diameter and length of the HID kit's that you all have bought?

Don't be a ricer and slap in an HID bulb in a halogen housing. It blinds everyone.

Granted this is for a fox, the same principal applies:

Picked up a true HID conversion for the car tonight. They've already been installed in a set of clear housing headlights. I'm going to swap the lenses on these with my smoked lenses. I'm not sure if this is the exact placement I want the projectors to be in the housing, but I do like how far back they are. I'm guessing the header panel will need clearancing for it to work like this though.
These draw less power than the stockers too :bigthumb
This is the kit: http://store.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=141&osCsid=f232c7ffd1a746ca746eec3ef9b489e8

Lmao! I need better headlights for my Mark Viii and I'm trying to figure out how to make it happen. I've put HID bulbs in before I wrecked it and they were "just okay" but I need more light... I have to drive with the dims and the brights on. I have new housings, so it shouldnt be as bad... but I'd like to see what kind of headlight hotrodding can be done... I've got a set of junk mark viii housings i can hack up.

Depends on what you want to spend, but I'd probably just go buy some Silverstars.

Mine are the exact same size as my stock bulbs and the ballasts mount where ever you want to put em. And as long as you dont go to far out of the white/yellow color range it doesn't scatter the light to bad. It was the best thing I put on the bike.

Did that. Worked like a lead baloon. absolute shit for light output in those housings. Had to do the HID bulbs just to see. Then wire my dims to stay on when I turned me brights on just to get an extra inch of light.

Got a picture of that? I plan to stay in the 4300K range. That should give me the whitest output of light.

Hey Jesse, look around in the wrecking yards for a 96 Mark with factory HID's. Thats what I did in mine and I LOVED it! Those things are notorious for shitty headlights, and it makes no sense! Both bulbs in the housings are a "hi beam" lamp! Speaking of those cars, I found a power drivers mirror in my garage for one last week if you need it lol...

an HID projector upgrade is a VERY good retrofit if you can pull it off...i had a set in my del Sol from an 04 Maxima. you may be able to squeeze projectors from a 350z into your housing, IIRC they are shorter than most because they are not a fully covered projector...
and yes, its grabber blue...lol i miss that car :(

I have... they dont seem to exist here... I absolutely cannot find a set of HID housings... to save my life... and when I do come across a set, it's too little too late.
Andy, I can tell just by looking that the projector you used it soo big. My Mark takes 9005 bulbs. But I thought about butchering a housing to retrofit (read epoxy-rig) a set of projectors or SOMETHING in there to make the lights better..
