I used to be anti roll-cages, I still am kind of. When ever I drive on the street with no helmet I always thought about the bar and window net clasp 2 inches from my head. After seeing what happened to pumpkin head, I might reconsider.

Not so sure it was a bad weld but a bad crash.I wont build one that way.Theres a reason why.

Just read the whole thread on DFWS. Man, those pictures are sickening. My wife walked into the room when I was looking and I was afraid she would see them. I'd never hear the end of it if she did.

One thing I can say about Rob Lewis is that the man is one helluva welder. I know that anything can happen in a racecar, but I fully believe and trust that if a rollcage can possibly save me in a wreck, the one he built me will do the job, without question.

That was one heck of a wreck. I do believe the A-piller bar by NHRA specs is suppost to go from the main hoop all the way forward to the foot well in one piece to provide suppost in case of a roll over in a 8 pt cage.

So true, Not that ive had that problem but never went enough too. This next project will for sure!

I might bitch and moan over the cost of getting the safety equipment but I still get what I have to have and sometimes more. ex. neck collar for a slow 10 sec car.

Safety regulations have predetermined trap and et points for 1/8th mile .

Saw this on another forum as well and makes me sick after watching his buildup over on TTF. Definitely has me adding a cage to my list.

There were several factors at play here:

1. Design of the cage
2. Penetration of the weld? (I'm no expert on this)
3. It was an 8 second car with a FIFTEEN YEAR OLD 10-point cage.

As everyone is saying, it's not a bad idea to overdo your safety equipment. I'd feel like a first class douche if I left my wife and kids without a husband/father over a racing accident.

Thank God the dude survived.
