I just did a 3.73 i thought when i read the red speedo gear that it was the right one but my speedo is about 9mph off.... about 50% of what i read says red the other half is the white one... anyone know for sure?

The white will read closer than the red. The white one has really fine teeth that will get chewed up, but will work good for a while. Steeda sells it, im fairly certain its a Chrysler part.

Id junk it..
thats a shame. First you dad totals it with a what I can only imagine was some belt buckle trick he learned from batman and now your miles arent even accurate. man... Put it on a raft made of sticks and twine, cover it in gas and fill it with all the dead grass from around here, and set it afloat on the ohio river. Hit it with a flaming arrow and put it out of its misery. Poor POOR coupe.... you will be missed.
And yes... I have been drinking, thank you verry much.... note the time

I refuse to use the jeep gear the teeth are so small that they shear off dumping plastic into the transmission in a very bad spot. Many cases have been destroyed by those gears. For electronic speedometers I buy the dakota digital unit from summit. For mechanical I'm sure there is a fix as well. What transmission is it? the aod can use a 93 MarkVIII output shaft which is hardened and 7 tooth output making 3.73's within mechanical limits.

have some one in another car and drive down the road. Have them go a certain speed & take your needle off and put it where it on the approximate speed.

Change to a 7 tooth drive gear on the output shaft and then you can use the Ford driven gear (red) instead of the chrysler part.
I think 90-93 'stangs w/T5's had an 8 tooth drive gear, earlier models had 7 tooth.

i thought about what you said last weekend. the problem is at 25mph its only like 2mph off according to my gps, but tonight at the track i trapped 103.2 and i glanced down as the speedo crosed 120:lol: i might have to have the trans rebuilt if thats the case ill switch the drive gear over the winter.

That is what I do with the automatics.

depending on what happens with the current trans that might be my best bet... would just hate to pull the tranny out for a silly little gear. i dont understand why ford didnt make a damn gear for it.

yeah that crap is aggrivating. The way I listed above is the only other way other than putting it into the tune. The reason I put it at 50 is because it was close no matter the speed (like 5 mph). for example I would drive through middletown and they would have up one of those radar signs and at 40 it was reading me at 37 or something like that. I just thought of it a good way to make sure I wasn't speeding everywhere I went. :)
