clean a gas tank without dropping it. long story short, I am probably picking up a Celica for very cheap. I has been sitting for about 5 years and needs a new fuel pump. I already took out the pump and made sure that was the issue since I was just helping my buddy fix it. he hasn't done anything since and has now offered the car to me for cheap. I need a way to get the fuel of of the tank and clean the crap out before I put the new pump in. Any ideas??

Well you can get the fuel out of the tank with a cheap transfer pump from autozone. as for cleaning out the tank I am not sure how to do that without taking it out.

If you turn the car upside down and shake, it might get clean......other than that, to be sure its clean, pull it out!

Haha, theres some pretty good jokes in here. but on a more serious note, the tank is under the back seat and there is a fairly large opening to clean it thru. Is there any fluids that help with varnish, like seafoam or something?

I had a Mercury LTD that I tuned into a derby car when I was a teenager. I drilled a hole in the fuel tank to drain it, seafoamed the shit out of it, then put some of that 2 part putty epoxy in and over the hole. Then I put 2 fuel filter in line with each other lol.

It was billy...but it worked lol.

And put some pennies, or bbs in there to knock the rust lose!

Seriously, I doubt you can get it very clean, without removing it.

Good luck with it!

If it has slosh chambers it has to be pulled.
