I've been into art my whole life, ever since i could hold a pencil. I've always worked with colored pencils...i don't know why, they just appealed to me growing up. Prisma Colors get expensive though and one piece can eat up a few pencils depending on the color...so i'm taking a shot at acrylic paints. I never did much painting except for a few pieces in high school, but the teacher back then always raved at me and said i was a natural and i should put down the pencils and paint.

Well around the time i was 19 or so i did my first real painting, which was of a lotus tattoo i found in a tattoo magazine:

It's cheap hobby store acrylic paint, on a scrap piece of cardboard that i pulled out from between picture frames while stocking shelves at Target

Well that was about 12 years ago...I haven't picked up a paintbrush since except to paint model cars. A friend of mine ripped my ass about how "you have real natural talent and you're wasting it not doing anything" so i decided maybe he's right and i should try painting again. So...i pulled out a drawing i worked on a few years ago and never did anything with, transferred it to some water color canvas (just super thick cotton paper) and went at it.

I've got 2 "sessions" working on it, a couple hours each. I'm SLOOOOW at this stuff because i'm so anal about the details. But...here's painting #2 in progress:

(please excuse the crappy cell phone pic)

I have no idea how i'm going to do the wings. This whole piece is about a foot tall and 2 and a half feet wide or so. The roses are gonna be red of course...i'm open to suggestions on what to do with the wings

Heya...good to see another artist on here, I've been an artist ever since I could remember, I've been thinking heavily on going back to artwork, pen, pencil, color pecils etc. never really had the touch for painting except for painting houses and apartments lol. I loved oil paintings but took me too long, arcrylics are nice to work with, you can blend them a millioin different ways(shading). My idol for any kind of artwork is Boris Vallejo and his wife Julie Bell's, Frank Frazetta is a close second. But I love almost all artwork.

On the skull your working on...great so far, it almost looks 3d in a weird kinda way, not saying your work is wierd just the way it looks now on the page:bigthumb...just my opion on your background, I'd soften up the flowers and wings to pop out the skull to the foreground...man seeing your work almost makes me want to start right now...my wife would hate it if I got back into art...she'd never see me come up from the basement:lol:

Good luck with the final piece, I know what it feels like to have started something years ago and never finish...I have so many I want to finish since now I'm more mature in my artwork...your like fine wine, you get better with age:bigthumb

Yeah i wasnt sure about going with black and gray over a yellowy aged bone look but i like it. I wish i could say that's out of my head but i took a real photo of a skull from the net to use as a shadow reference...i have all the ability i could ask for but i lack the vision to pull stuff out of my head like that. I like to work an hour or so and come back later...i find that i see things that i over look if i stay on it a long time. I love acrylics...you can actually mix the colors as you paint instead of on a palet..plus you gotta love water clean up.

Good work man, I am in the same boat looking to get back into it. I have only painted one time on canvas and that was in highschool, but took commercial art at Raymond Walters and did all kinds of boring stuff. :)

I asked for some canvases and some paint for my birthday but I didn't get it. :(

All of those are on i think 11x14 if i remember right except the black and white is on 8x10. The one sacred heart, i don't have any idea how that image got so huge lol.

And here's a custom box knife just for laughs :cool1:

Try an airbrush or try picking up a tattoo gun.... might have a career in both doing art!

My dad has been an artist forever. He is a commercial artist by trade which means he doesn't get a lot of plesasure from painting outside of work. Evrything he does these days is on the computer which is sad because he is so freaking talented. I remember when I was a kid he did a lot with an airbrush and if you did not know better you thought you were looking at a photo. I'm so jealous my brother got his talent and I did not

I love flower art.....may not be very manly but i find flowers to be a real challenge to make them look real and life like so they're something i've painted and drawn a lot.

Another art i love is sculpting...i LOVE working with clay but it's something kinda hard to do at home. I've tried the home oven bake clay but it just doesn't work as well as a real slip clay that you bake in a kiln. It's another medium i don't have a lot of experience in that i'd like to try more of...i have a couple things from high school i'll try to get pics of.
