I've recently put my first ar together and was looking to add some optics. My ar is a flat top upper and has the standard front sight. Id like something with a 3 or 4x magnification. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking to keep this around 100 to 125 if possible (so no eotech or acogs...)
thanks in advance.

In all honesty, id rather shoot with iron sights vs. thru a 125 dollar optic. No 3-4x combat optic comes to mind. What is the purpose of this rifle?

You could always go with a red dot reflex sight, you can find them fairly cheap but you won't get any magnification.

Bushnell makes a red dot that looks like a EOtech, but is $225. You can always get a 3-9x40 scope and keep the power down. Check out these people.

Its mainly going to be used as a toy for the range. ive got my iron sights sighted in pretty well at 50 yds. but wanted something that i could shoot out to 100+ with good groupings. I might have to end up shelling out the $ for something quality...

I have a strikefire red green dot that ran 150. I have about 500 rds through it and holding zero. They get good reviews and has NV mode also.

Good for a budget build.

Buy a nice leupold scope and it may be more than you want to spend but you won't regret it later. I have bought a lesser scope and then ended up wasting money in the long run by ditching that for something nicer.
