well did plug wires, and now it bucks like no othher when you stomp on it. im 99.99% sure the wires are on the dis. the right way i did them one at a time to make sure they were.
Sparkplugs are white on the ends, which if i understand right is rich, and i know the car is running rich for a fact.
The car runs fine for the mostpart (its slightly hesitant when cool) soon as it warms up it runs like dog crap.
i used a light mist of water to wet the firewall and fenders a coupledays ago to clean it, there was now extreme water pressure, and since then i dont think its been running right.
Also the pick up like 4th gear at 35-40 if i were to just speed up to pass a car it feels sluggish.
Im reserching the TFI but im starting to think its not it.:confused2

dude if it wasnt like that before? its the wires. check them again. also make sure you use dielectric greese on the spark plug side of the wires.

Thats what i was thinkin he could of pulled the plug wires apart at the bottom.. find another set of wires and try them

it was kinda like it before after it got wet, I changed the wires simply because one melted through
I had one that did that and it was the tps. Very cheep, fast, and easy fix. If thats it. Look at what you touched latley. It may not be something you messed with it may have just been time for something to go. When my tps went it bucked when I was trying to maintain speed though.

well I bought a new tfi modual put it on it, but it's raining so I can't drive it now if it runs right after that it's in the garage till the tune so it's not out on the streets running lean

Check the grounds again and the orange wire bolted to your head. If its not that then you must have a major vacuum leak

Working on cars is not for everyone. If I was closer id lend a hand.

facemelter is on his way to my house, I just don't know what to check anymore.
Kevin1989

well big thanks to facemelter came out and checked a lot of stuff out,
bad news is he thinks a valve in the head is stuck open and it's backfiring out of the intake. I need to try a new dizzy to rule out that, if that doesn't work, who can port some eddy heads while they are off the car.

But isnt it only doing it when its warm? If it was the valve it would constantly be doing it right?

kevin stop by the shop with it tomarrow. a wire crossed will pop in the intake...

its all the time now, no biased when its cold or warm, What type of wire are you talking tommy?
a stuck valve would exp[lain the louder than normal valve train noise i heard once. the pass side valve cover has more chatter than the right
mustangboy
08-01-2010, 10:59 PM
Have you pulled the valve covers to rule out a broken rocker arm or to be sure you have one that has not backed off.
Kevin1989
08-01-2010, 11:11 PM
going to do that tomorrow after work i believe, its the pass side that has the louder chatter so its an easy check

Kevin,
Did you check all the simple things first ?? Pull codes, check TPS, O2 sensors functioning, etc etc.
Got a spare distributor you could throw in it and see if anything changes ??
Was this car originally an Auto and swapped over to a 5 speed by chance ??

TPS was adjusted by facemelter, it was showing .922 its now at .997 code came up as a code 67 but the CEL is only on everynow and then, 93rednotch has a dizzy im going to try to swap out before i pull a valve cover to take a peak.

I would swap out the Dizzy, see if that helps. It is def' a timing issue. The engine under moderate-heavy load will pop from the intake.Like I said,my 86 did that then wouldnt start at all.I swapped Dizzy's and drove it till I crushed it like 9 years later.
TPS was wacked out,was close to .900 some thing.Had to do some filing on that bad boy for it to come into range.Fuel pressure was around 35 with vacuum attached.I didnt think to remove it,gauge was acting up. I couldnt pull codes with my scanner. For some reason it wasnt liking it.Checked and set Base timing at close to 10.Couldnt really see 10 on the balancer.Removed what ever ignition box is on it and let it run with the factory ignition. No change.
Symptoms are these.
Some what low Idle.Should be better now with TPS in range.
Car slightly changed symptoms when we changed TFI module.
Runs "ok" under light load hardly any RPM's.
Run it up in any gear it starts popping through intake and has No power.(timing?).
Plugs were ok,slightly darker than I would like to see. Also need some Autolite's in there.

deff smoother when i pulled it back in the garage, im going to try to figure out how to swap the dizzy:confused: and try that tonight i never drove it after the original TFI went back on, so well see if there is any difference in driving quality.:bangwall:

WEll update after the drive... After the old TFI being switched back on Facemelter adjusting the TPS resetting the timing. i took the car down the street to see if there was any improvement... and i rolledinto it at about 3k rpm in second (thats the rpm that it would shutter pop and do whatever at) well it pulled pretty hard up to 60mph im like well okay.... so i keep driving to get it at opp temp and i do the exact same, and it pulls hard... do a half throttle first to second and it feel like the old car... maybe just a little lag in it. But i can think of a few reasons why. it would feel laggy. i dunno ill drive it again tomorrow for longer and see if it starts doing it again and make sure its all good. maybe its the dizzy coming and going?

well ran codes. some EGR shit which i dont have hooked up. and This is what sticks out. Said weak circut for mass air ground wire. i checked every ground wire i could find including the ECU ground and everything seemed fine They were all tight and making a good connection. I have the Old TFI modual in so, i decided to try the stock ignition car idles smother and seems to take off a little smoother.... at WOT it doesnt seem to want to pull untill about 4krpm then it almost feels normal. In 4th or 3rd at low rpms and you give it some to pass a car, or at WOT at 2k rpm it feels really sluggish and i can hear it popping under me out of the exhaust...
Im trying to figure this out so i dont have to pay someone to do this, i wanna learn but im at a loss with all the wires and plugs...

There is a ground by the battery that looks like it has a fuse in it. Its black and kind of big. If that is loose or bad it will cause it to act that way

checked a ground wire that metcalf told me about cleaned it off made sure it had good connection, stock ignition still hooked up bumped up fuel pressure not sure on the corect number but its higher. it now runs better, doesnt always want to idle right? but at WOT past 3krpm it doesnt buck pop or seem to hesitate. ran outa time for the car tonight ill try to turn up timing tomorrow and grab a fuel pressure gauge from cincy tomorrow and figure this out!:bigthumb
