Ok I traded all my shit off and got a bad ass motor and tranny but I didnt have anything to put it in. I have been wanting a Coupe for a while so I finally got one. It belonged to Foxtrot on here at one time. It is going to go through alot of changes and will be getting the 427 stuffed in. Not sure how long its going to take or what all is going to be done as of now. But its a start!

Yeah it sucks to not have it now. I miss driving it around and it was a blast but i wanted something faster and I have been wanting a coupe so now I have both! The rat rod is on the back burner again thanks to this. Ill get to it one of these days! Pumprys engine shop in Wilmington dyno`d it when Denny had it and it made 1270hp and 1140 tq but I think Ill take it back to him and do it again. Just to have proof I guess. Either way it should be fun!

As for the specs on the motor, It is an RPM Maxx 9.5 block with splayed mains on the middle 3, Eagle crank and rods, Diamond Pistons with the ring land down .450", .642/.662 solid roller,Ported Victor Jr heads, comp rockers and stud girdles, Moroso pan,MSD Distributor, Super Victor intake, CSU blow thru carb, Meziere electric water pump, Fabbed valve covers, and more that I probably am forgetting.
It has the Vortech V7 Ysi and 20lb pulleys with Kurgan Brace, Custom Jimmy Thery piping, and procharger bypass valve.
The tranny is a Turbo 400 with brake and DirtyDog 3800 convertor, with SFI bell.
On the dyno it made 1270hp and 1140tq at 6250

The car itself has tubular k member, frame ties, manual rack and shaft, 8.8 with 3.73 gear, adjustable upper and lower control arms, aluminum radiator and electric fan, and optima battery in the trunk.

My plans are to have it painted with an H.O. Fibertrends extended cowl hood, fill all the holes under the hood, put in a 9 inch and mini tub, New cage, and Kirkey seats and rear seat delete. Ill post up more pics later as soon as I get the engine sitting down in it.

Hate to burst your bubble but there is nobody in town that is going to get that thing recaged, mini tubbed and rear sheet metal before the end of this year. From my personal past expierence you may have just bought a nice done car, you can usually pick them up for pennies on the dollar. It is going to be nasty for sure, good luck and you may want to invest in some Depends so you don't soil your race suit.

draggin50
07-31-2010, 12:36 AM
Ive already talked to Jimmy Thery about the cage and K&M welding can knock the mini tub job out quick and it looks awesome. As for cutting the rear end down, Its getting a 9 inch anyways so I can just buy a complete bolt in unit. This aint going to happen over night thats for sure!

I need to go with a different gear and the driveshaft that I have is for the turbo 400 and a 9 inch. I may have another driveshaft made for now to run it but its still up in the air.

31's?What posi? Id do at least 33's and a spool.Did you ever get a dyno Graph?Just to see where it made power to then decide on a starting point for a gear.

Yeah they were thrown in with the car when I bought it. Its just 31 spline Moser axles and Trac Loc and 3.55 gear. It made peak torque with 1140@ 4800 and power was 1270 @6250. I am planning on atleast 33 or 35 spline axles with a spool and I think the 3.55 gear and welding the tubes and adding the 9 inch housing ends. Im not going to be able to finish it any time this year I beleive. I'll get ahold of you and see what you think on the cage deal. I plan on cutting this one out altogether. Let me know what you think.

I would definately get the car completely built and ran for a while before you paint it. Get the bugs worked out and get everything mounted where you want it and where it works well then you can do paint. That way you don't have to worry about new paint during the build process. Paint doesn't look too bad in the pics as it is.

No its not to bad. I actually like the color. It has a few dents and dings but overall pretty decent. From what Im getting its a southern car and rust free. It has a Mississippi inspection sticker in the window from 05.

NXcoupe
08-11-2010, 02:42 AM
Yeah, I hate when folks run the cage in front of the dash like that, you'll never be able to get behind it if you needed too. I think that's your best idea, do it now before you get it all ready to go and don't want to take it back down to redo the cage. I know it sucks, we had to cut the cage out of my renegade car to put in a moly cage that would cert to the et's I wanted out of the car.

outlaw85
08-12-2010, 01:10 AM
Your not cutting it all out are u? Just cut out the front bars and put new through the dash if you really hate it that bad. Alot can change between now and when it's running trust me been there. I would concentrate my attention to getting on the road or track and save the time & money for other mods and issues that will arise. Just my 2 cents been down this road a couple times LOL!!!

draggin50
08-12-2010, 01:56 AM
Yeah I was planning on cutting it all out. Id rather do it to my likings and know its good and safe than just let it go. Its not going to be together soon I think so Id rather go ahead and plan on putting a new one in. Im not really in any hurry to get this one done.

I managed to accomplish a little bit this weekend. Here is some pictures. Fits like a glove!!! Looks like a cut cowl hood is in need if I dont want to go with the big Harwood hood. I'd like to have a 4 inch cowl hood but the piping is going to hit. Maybe I'll go for the old Outlaw look with the hood cut out for the piping to peek through!!

Now I have to put the headers on and they suck!!! I still have to put the regulator on and the tranny cooler and fab up a cross member for the tranny. And then driveshaft... Damn I wish I was too I'd have ya help me! They are about the tightest headers I have ever seen. I guess the trick is to lift the motor till the mount bolts just come out of the hole and then put them on. Then you have to fight everything back down in the car cause they ride right on the frame rails on both sides.

draggin50

From the way the headers are going on, I would expect it also! They are still fighting me! I have to pull the passenger side back loose to seal them up and make a little more clearance. Also have to put a heat shield on the starter since one primary is actually touching. Next build, Im going back to 8.2"!

Ill make sure to video it when it goes on the dyno. That may be a while yet though. Should be interesting!

Just a little more progress. Got the headers all the way on and sealed up, new plugs in and the wires on. ALso mounted the regulator and got most of the fuel system done. My return line is about 3 inches too short, Go figure! Tranny mount is bolted on and I have to weld on the tabs for it yet. Collectors are on also.

Yeah I agree I did a 99-up rear coil over anti-roll bar setup last year on a car and it was a pain with the stock gas tank. I had to run the upper shock mount bar through the spare tire area but it worked out. Pictures are on the site Brian it turned out nice so it can be done but a hell of alot easier to cut it out and install the cell!!

When I called and talked to him about it he said it can be done but its a pain in the ass. He has some pictures on his site of one of the customers cars and they used his upper coil over mount with the stock tank but had to use some spacers and weld tabs on it to bolt the straps too. Im not against using a fuel cell if I have to.

I went with the Team Z kit. I got the tubs, upper coil over crossmember and the lower coil over mounts. Me and my buddy Matt are doing it so its our first time doing it! I was going to have them at K&M do it but I figured if I could save a dollar and do it myself then I could take that money and spend it elsewhere. Im kinda on a limited budget with it and it gets hard to explain to the wife where my money is going!!!

Well its coming along pretty good but I still need alot of parts yet. Im needing to get the rear end done and new coil overs to finish up the rear but its all in due time. Im hoping to have it out in a couple months and get it on the dyno to see what it will do. Hell Id be happy to cruise it across town and back right now!

Me-1200 HP.= Not this year lol
Brian did you or Denny figure out what happened to your blower motor combo between the dyno and the passes at kilkare?
You get it figured out it should haul the mail it's a nice piece!
Keep at it!

draggin50
03-16-2011, 11:02 AM
I think it was just due to Denny having the health issues. He may be able to tell more but I think that was the only thing. We'll see how it runs this year. Im sure Ill be scared shitless too! My fastest car only went 10.90's so this will be a big change for me as well!!!

JASON408
03-16-2011, 11:22 AM
i think one of the problems from the dyno to the track is it made peak hp at 5900 and fell quick going to have to have the right convetor and gear on that combo . with 1000 to 1300 rpm on a gear drop that would put you about about 4600 to 4800 on a gear change going to need a low stalling )down in the 3k )tight convertor on that one not to mention the short power band will need alot of power mangement threw the box to get it to run good at the track .. with power adder cars if it all dont match it will not fall out of a tree at the track .

draggin50
03-16-2011, 12:07 PM
Right now the convertor thats in it is a 3800 I believe from DirtyDog.

JASON408
03-16-2011, 01:40 PM
if you put it on the trans break and it only goes 3800 wide open and its tight enough to fall 1000 on the shift you got a good start . the rest will be up to you controler or programable inj box witch ever your using for powermangement . but going to be had since it makes so much power in such a short rpm range ... do you have other pulley combos to move the power band up ??? be much better off

draggin50
03-16-2011, 01:58 PM
No dont have any other pulleys right now. It may be something I look into later on. Its a blow thru setup so I dont really have any management. I guess once its done and I run it, Ill see how it really does. Im curious to find out though!

draggin50
03-16-2011, 02:02 PM
Now another debate I have been thinking about is tire selection... Should I go with a radial or a ET Street type tire? It will be on the streets some but not alot. Mostly just close to where I live. I have picked up 15x10 Prostars with 3.5 bs and the mini tub job is done. Just need to get my tires now and also figure out what rate and size of rear springs to use. I have the QA1 coil overs for the rear. Ill get pictures up soon.

outlaw85
03-16-2011, 02:23 PM
90-110 rear coil springs
275/60 or 325/50/15 Hoosier drag radial IMO

programble msd inj box will work find for power mangment 7531 would be the best choice .

275 /60 drag radial or 325 if you can fit it

draggin50
03-16-2011, 02:42 PM
I can fit the 325. Im gonna make the trip to Jegs this weekend to get some. Why the Hoosier Radials Josh? Ive never run those but I had a set on the coupe but never ran them.

JASON408

Alot of the guys down in Georgia were running the Hoosier Radials.

draggin50
03-16-2011, 07:15 PM
Thats where Im kinda havin trouble deciding. I like how the radials drive on the street, but I love how the bias ply such as the ET Streets or Quick Times hook at the track. Also with the bias ply tires should tubes be used?

JASON408
03-16-2011, 08:35 PM
with you power radial will prob be a better choice since it has a stiffer sidewall , et streets work good on lower hp power cars to get them to leave on more power off the starting line but higher hp cars like you have have to worry about bring the power in at 200 foot out and et street and a radial are not even close at that part of the track

draggin50
03-16-2011, 09:31 PM

Progress is being made! Picked up some parts from Jegs the other day but I did find out they dont have any Hoosier radials in stock so I bought the ET Street Radials. Guess Ill see how they do. Got the mini tub almost all the way done and now have all my rear suspension under it (temporarily) and wheels hanging under it and a hood that clears! Also got the 9 inch with ladder bars in it. Here's pics.
