Well, decided a project thread would be in order, and figured a few folks would like to see the progress on this thing, so here goes.

Well, traded my vert that some of you might have seen in my projects thread, along with another coupe I had, a red 90. I had sold all the blower, engine, 6spd, etc, off my vert and put a mild combo with a T5 back in it. Here's what I got:

So, the engine is a Dart Iron Eagle 9.5 deck block, 427 cubes, Dominator stroker kit from Probe, 4.125" bore, H beam rods, TFS R heads, ported by me, TFS R box intake, 60 lb injectors, TFS rocker arms, Probe Rocker girdle, 75mm throttle body, 2" Kooks custom stainless headers, custom grind solid roller cam, solid lifters, canton pan, etc. It's a beast. TKO 600, Mcleod bell, rear is an 8.8 with gun drilled and star flanged 33 spline axles, spool, 3.73 gear, TFS rear girdle. F1R procharger, with sheet metal intercooler. It's a beast, got a 10 point moly cage in it too. kirkey seats, aerospace race brakes, on and on. Sweet ride.

My first purchase for this project. Just could not stand to look at that back bumper cover any more! And I love Cheesegrater lights on a GT, just my taste. So picked all this up for 100 bucks delivered. All I need is the bumpercover and lights, so the rest of the stuff is just extra until I get the car painted and then I will sell off what I don't use.

Well, I was just thinking about that! I'm torn between giving it to you now, or getting it all together and running, then yank the engine and trans out and let you have at it. Because getting it all together and making everything fit, wiring, running all the hoses, bolting shit on and trial fitting it, etc, might scratch the heck out of a new paint job, what do you think? otherwise, it would already be at your place, lol.

Sounds like those injectors will be maxed out quickly

NXcoupe
07-02-2010, 11:30 AM
yes, yes, I know about the injectors. lol. It's got a pully on it the size of rhode island, it's not gonna make much if any boost, so somewhere in the 600 hp range, so they will be plenty. It was originally planned to allow the owner to get his feet wet with that much hp, then up the boost to 15 to 20 and see how fast it would go. I am leaving it status quo for now, and have started looking for 100+ lb injectors to use on it and then order a pully for it as well.

real nice build! car should fly with that combo, what brand and color paint are you using to paint the cage with? I'm at about the same stage as you are in my build

It's already painted, those are some old pics. I use rustoleum hammered finish black. Looks sweet and really holds up well. Easy to retouch later too when it gets scraped up. lasted a ton longer than my spray black I used on another car.

Thanks! So that stuff's been through the mill huh? Lol. Well it's not going any farther than the back of my car now. Thanks John, I like it to, although plated has already tossed some ideas my way for it. Probably going to get it to him here shortly. then when I get it back, stuff the engine back in it and hook everything up and get it running.

Yep, should be a lot of fun on the street. Going to run some meaty drag radials for as street tire. hoping to get some things started on it here soon.

i seen you ported your trick flows :bigthumb ... i just spent around 110 hours on my twisted wedge heads ... did you flow them, if so what kind of numbers?

mine are at total engine airflow getting a valve job, milling, assembled and they are flowing them ... cant wait to get them back ... (i went 184 cc on the intake, 70 cc on the exhaust) ... theres the pic in my avatar ...

Having TEA port them would have only costed what u would make in 40 hrs.

i know and trust me i wanted to do it so many times ... blame shannon, lol ... i really wanted to make my own horsepower ... hopefully its a very rewarding process ...

i learned a ton doing this as well ... there is so much to consider when porting ...

i went a 184 cc, worse case scenario~if my flow numbers suck ass, i will get the 205 cc program ran on them :bigthumb

one more thing to consider as well ... the heads already done are almost $2000 ... they come as a 65cc, so i would need milling ... then im stuck with selling my stock heads for chump change ...

if i sent them my heads to be worked, i was looking at $1000 for porting, $179 for springs, $150 for the valve job, $75 for milling and shipping twice ($58 a pop) ... add that up ...

im up to around 110 hours, but thats including porting the upper and lower intake thus far ... ive learned a ton and really dont regret it ... putting something together is one thing, but making what you're putting together is another ... sure i could have shot my measly 11.3x's into a 10, but what fun is that ...

im just wanting an all motor, small stroker to hit a nice 10 :bigthumb ... then maybe i could shoot my measly high 10 into a hi 9 :D

These are R heads, so the flow numbers wouldn't compare to yours. I did flow a set that I ported years ago, and they were in the 315/240 at .550 lift. I had vic jr's in the 320/265 at .550 and those just went to the new owner of my renegade car. Those heads should make some killer power. I am also still planning on getting a flow bench at the shop here sometime in the next year. I haven't given up yet on that.

a flow bench would be nice to have ... great numbers and work by the way :bigthumb hell the 185 or the 205 cnc program at TEA doesnt even flow what you made ...

NXcoupe
07-08-2010, 01:26 AM
Well, I will caution, you can't compare flow bench to flow bench. I used a SuperFlow top of the line flow bench to flow my heads, not sure what TEA has now. The only way I compare heads is to flow on the same bench. But thanks a bunch, I learned a lot from the owner of TEA when they sponsored my renegade car back in the day. he really does some fine work, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I so much wanna get this thing finished up. I purchased the alternator for it, still frickin waiting on that to get to me. Then I have to decide on a clutch, leaning towards the dual disc set up from spec. But might just go with a 3+ if I can find one used and in good shape.

Will do, looking for a used one with no luck so far. Seems everyone that has one is in love with them. I just think it will handle the power, be very streetable, and kind of be overkill. If I ever go to sell it, it will sell faster with the better clutch setup.

So I thought since I am coming home and going to start working on this, I would resurrect it from the bottom. I ordered an alternator and have never received it. The guy is scamming me and stole my money. Been since July 11th the payment cleared my paypal account, and it's Sept 20 and no alt. So I am going to order one from PA performance this week. I want one of the 3G units at about 150 amps, polished of course.
I also spoke with spec and was assured that a 3+ could handle the power the car will be making, and will also work well at the track, so I am using one that I got on a car I am parting out, along with the billet flywheel too. I can't wait to get the car together and fired! I'll start posting up pics as I make progress.

Well, the alternator finally arrived, going to put it on the car tomorrow, take pics and post them afterwards.
Also, after a lot of thought, I am going to go with the dual disk clutch with an aluminum flywheel. It comes as a unit and since I discovered there is no flywheel with the car, it just makes sense to order the dual disk unit with the flywheel all in one, comes out not too much more expensive than a 3+ and an aluminum flywheel.

I'd love to see this thing cruise over to KK, air down a set of 325/50/15 DR's click off an easy 9 second pass and drive right back home. I think this project started about the same time mine did way back in 2005 or early 2006. It's been a long time in the making but will be WELL worth the wait IMO.

NXcoupe
10-06-2010, 12:33 PM
Thanks, I agree. I believe it will be on et streets tho rather than drag radials, just because of how harsh radials are with this kind of power through a stick. I am ordering the clutch in a few minutes from spec. I am getting the upgraded discs from them, so they will look like a stage 3 clutch.
