Bob and Tom called it the Big Butter Jesus i guess because it looked like it was carved out of butter. That thing was known nationally. I'm sure Jesus will rise again (no religious pun intended lol).

Suspiciously enough, there was recent discussion of the need to renovate the statue. Could it possibly be that insurance money will be rebuilding it? I think lightning may have hit the gasoline that was being poured all over it....

I know it's always hard for you to hear me when I speak, and quite frankly I havent been able to find the words to tell you how much I actually dislike the butter-colored, 60ft tall statue you made of me calling a touchdown, sooo...... uhhh... yeah.... there you go.
Have a nice day

I always wanted to make a sign that said "ITS GOOOOOD!" or something like that and stand it up in front of it. I'm sure even if it was God who shot it with lightning that insurance money and/or the collection plate will pay to butter it back up.

Does anyone else see the irony in the fact that the 62 ft. tall statue of Jesus burnt to the ground after being struck by lightning but the Hustle store on the other side of the highway came through unharmed and is open for business again today?

In the video of it burning, it looks like it only has one arm.... like someone hailing hitler, lol
I hear the next design will be him shooting a 3 pointer....
But I do remember hearing they needed to repair it. It was falling apart. It wouldn't surprise me if it was set on fire by someone there.

I hate that name for the over sized Jesus. People stole that name from the real Touch Down Jesus which is located at the north end of the field at Notre Dame... Of course the people from the church will call it an act of God and how someone will come out in a few days and say the Lord spoke to him in that one second when the lightning struck.

I find it hard to believe that this didn't happen sooner. Who in there right mind would design something that is highly flammable and has a inner frame of metal. This was bound to happen and the materials used to make this all have high burn rate.

Exodus 20:4,5 - "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of ANYTHING in heaven above or on earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, ..."
I'd say that when God said anything, he meant ANYTHING! Though it was a representation of Jesus, the thing still reminded me of the golden idol made by King Nebuchadnezzar that Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego refused to bow down to and worship, which got them sent to the fiery furnace. Glad it's gone. Hopefully they learned a lesson.
Sorry, here endeth the lesson.

Well put.
I believe in religion and faith. I do not believe on pushing it on people, making them think they have to give you a ton of money, or being able to sin over and over and think that just being able to ask for forgiveness is ok.
You should learn the first time and not continue to. Sin the same.
All you need is your book of choice and faith.

What if it was though! That would be freaky. Maybe this was setup as a means to convince people Jesus is real and that they need to come back to the church and pay their tithes & offerings!!! Great idea!

Of course, maybe, perhaps it is an act of God. Look at the attention this event has caused WORLDWIDE. It has made christians question things they believe, it has made non-believers question things as well. It has gain more exposure than a speech by the Pope (or even Obama).
It has certainly given the opportunity for many to poke some fun, perhaps gaining even more exposure.
Last time God let his son die it changed the world.....
And Scott - I am still laughing at your comment, last night on the news they were interviewing the Pastor's wife and she said he won't be back in 3 days this time ~lol~ maybe she reads Stangbangerz!
