So the fiance drove her car through a "puddle" that ended up going over the hood of her car. Long story short, intake sucked in water, luckily she was very close to her house and made it home. Oil was milky, air filter soaked, and magnetic drain plug had a bit of metal shavings on it. I changed the oil, filter, and air filter, ran it, and changed the oil again today. It's running great, not milky at all, and the check engine light never came on.

Disclaimer : my mechanical abilities and knowledge are fairly low, so I apologize if some of this doesn't make sense or sounds dumb. I checked the trans. fluid and it was not milky at all. Should I go ahead and change it just to be safe? Also, a friend of mine was saying something about the differential might not be lubed by the trans fluid, but instead might be greased. And that if it's holding water that it will eat it up. Can anyone help me out with finding that out or steering me in the right direction? Any help is greatly appreciated

And what other precautions should I take to?

The car is a 2003 Focus se 2.0 sohc.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet. I would watch out for electrical problems in the future.

change tranny fluid

FWD transaxle, the diff shares same oil/fluid as the whole transmission.

If motor doesn't stall from water injestion, it normally is OK, even if the rods get a little squiggley :)
