Cutting open an oil filter....

anyone here have the tool needed?????

The car I just bought had a Fram on it and seems the mesh that holds the filter media together has come apart and made it through the motor. I'm curious as to what happened.

Just use a really sharp butter Knife.Let us know next week when your half way through it.lol

you could try a chain cutter for cutting exhaust pipe may make a clean cut dont know if it go all the way through though, just an idea

I usually use a band saw but have used tin snips before.

When I was in vocational school we cut a few filters apart and found that the filter media in a fram was held together by cardboard. Ever since then all I will use is Wix, Motorcraft, or Hastings. They all use metal to hold the filter media together.

Tin snips work well...I like them better than the filter cutters

When I drained the catch pan into the jugs, I found gold, not a good sign.

The oil was last changed by Walmart judging by the sticker.

Engine still runs great, just concerning to me.

tin snips or metal nibbling cutter is what I've used...

Hack saw and a vise. Just cut it in half. Send have to the previous owner. No wait, you aren't divorcing him, just buying a car. My bad. See where my mind is......LOL

Tin snips, that way you can also check for any metal, any saw will cause shavings..
