The Journey began in the fall some 11 years ago. I was getting ready to turn 16 and got a 1992 Ford Mustang LX (4 cylinder) Had 65 or 75K miles can't quite remember. It was in great shape except the hood was fading and the dash pony had been ripped off.
So I saved up $400 got a Maaco Paintjob and new dash emblem and here is what I was crusing to school and work in

When gas was 84 cents a gallon. I would fill up on friday pay with a $10 bill get change and the gas would last me all week. Got about 30+ miles to the gallon.
This car took me all over the place, on my first real date with a young lady I am still good friends with to TGI Fridays and a movie, plus many other random dates after that. Took me back and forth to West Lafayette Indian to visit my brother at Purdue University. I drove the piss out of the this car and the only problem I ever had was a blown transmission at 120,000 miles with at least 6 people learning to drive a stick on it. Got in a wreck messing up the front bumper and hood. So I thought it would be a good idea to put a new hood and GT bumper on it (which was a terrible idea, as I really missed the simple look of the LX body style)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/hood.gif
I drove it until the end of my Junior year of college the brakes were going, needed new shocks, and struts, amongst other little things here and there and could not stand the look with the hood and GT bumper. It had 154,765 miles.
So I was working and had money to spare so I bought a 1996 GT Convertible. And the 92 was retired to my mom's extra garage. One day to get a 5.0 motor swap and some other goodies or so I thought.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/DSCN1849.jpg
Great car for college as in the nice weather girls would always call to go for a ride.
Then college ended and the convertible lost it's glory, I did some work to the GT and then it sat, in the last two years I only drove it about 1,200 miles.
I figured it was time to sell it, pay off all my debt except the house, and buy some toys and start collecting parts to bring back my 92 Mustang that I did miss very much.
Well the time has come for her to rise again.

We are going back to the simple LX body style with factory Pony wheels. (Not my car but this is what it will look like just slightly lower.

I have acquired almost all the parts I need to get her up and running again though she will be getting a new power plant. I have been really wanting a turbo car so in doing a little research I have found that the late 80s Ford Turbo motor swap quite easily into a fox body mustang.

So I have acquired a 2.3L Turbo Motor from a 1988 Thunderbird Turbocoupe. This motor was found in the SVO Mustang, Turbocoupes, Cougar XR7s, and Merkur XR4ti in the late 80s.
This motor in particular is rated at about 190hp.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/Project%20Black/DSCN1344.jpg
The 88 model utilizes a relatively small turbo (IHI) only capable of about 18 pounds of boost Max.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/Project%20Black/DSCN1343.jpg
I am going to take it in stages but to start off I am going to keep it in stock form, adding a larger front mount intercooler from a Volvo. Thanks to a member here for the intercooler and picture.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/Project%20Black/VolvoIntercooler.jpg
After I get it up and running and money comes in I will be upgrading the Turbo to a Garrett T3 (which came on the earlier 2.3T motors) or possibly stepping up even more to a T3/T4 hybrid, which should allow a healthy 25-30 pounds of boost. I will also be adding a more agressive cam, gutted upper and lower intakes, 3" downpipe and full exhaust, as well as a piggy back ECU system allowing for pretty much all the tuning one could ever want compared to the archaic Ford LA3 that I will be using.
In the end I am hoping to be about 300hp to the wheels when all is said and done.
I am just wanting a fun street car to take the twisties in so it will be getting a lot of suspension upgrades over time as well.
The car has been sitting in my moms garage for about 5 years so it needs a little love but is in pretty good shape, just some minor things here and there on the inside and a new hatch as it is the only rust on the car.
Here are a couple shots I took today getting her ready to be hauled here.

I got a new hood and am trying to find an LX bumper to trade to as my GT bumper is in great condition.
And yes that is my GTO sitting next to the Mustang. It will be started on once I finish the Mustang.
I have quite a bit of work in front of me and I am going to attempt to do everything myself except paint.
I have a feeling that once I get the motor torn down that will be done by someone else as well though it is just getting a rering and bearing kit as the rods internals are forged from the factory and should not need to be replaced.
I have set a goal of 2 years to have it completely finished hope to have it drivable by the end of the summer but we'll see how it goes.

I have a few parts I still need to pick up, like a different radiator, 255lph fuel pump, 02 wideband controller, boost gauge. But they will come as money comes as since I am now out of debt I am not going back and I only pay cash for anything not just this project.

Looks like a good start! Should turn out real nice and run good as well. The 2.3 turbo motors are pretty nasty for what they are.

A little bit back from the dead as the project has been slow going. My wife and I have been working quite hard to get out of debt. We have finally done such except for the house. So the parts collecting has been very slow as I am not going back into debt for a project.
No debt really sees an increase in fun money and things are moving along quite well.
Back in November I was finally able to get the thing down here to my place in KY and get to work a little bit.

Started stripping the interior as it had a little bit of mildew action going on.

Once the interior was stripped, I pulled the fuel tank as I bought a different tank with a 255lph hi flow pump already installed. Currently still have it pulled as it gives me much more room for the suspension work.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/Project%20Black/DSCN2005.jpg
Picked up some UPR nonadjustable control arms, UPR (made by Eibach) 4 cylinder springs, UPR C/C Plates, Koni Shocks and Struts. Also have a sway bar from a turbo coupe and a large front sway bar of a 93 Cobra I think. Also picked up some GT brakes. Picked up some Pony wheel from Setty2706 this week as well.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/Project%20Black/DSCN2099.jpg
Threw on the wheels today just to get an idea of how much of a drop I will see from the springs and suspension. Still in 4x4 mode as the thing has been in the air for a couple months now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/Project%20Black/dfc5ce58.jpg
I also pulled the front bumper as I will be going back to an LX nose. Plus it will give me plenty of room for putting in a new radiator, front mount intercooler set up for the turbo motor. Radiator will be ordered next oay check and I will begin working or some custom brackets for that.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/Project%20Black/DSCN2008.jpg

As I go along I am finding a little surface rust here and there so now that weather is finally warming up I will be able to deal with it as I go along too.

So while it was off to a slow start, now that debt is gone it appears to be moving much faster.

I also prefer when the weather is nice as I get to work with the garage door open, natural light and a beautiful view is far better than a cold dark barn.

Be sure to check out Stinger-Performance for a TON of swap info if your not already on there. I am a changed man when it comes to info about our little turbo powered Limas. If you need anything shoot me a PM, I'm almost done with my build. (40Bob log header, Holset HX35, 72lb inj, 3" intake/FMIC and exhaust, gutted and rotated upper, knife edged lower, Boport head with a 2.1 cam, oversized valves, and soon to have a PiMP from Stinger-Performance, 5.0 trans w/adapter, and 5.0 clutch setup)

I have read everything on the Stinger site about 100 times. Currently 100 something on the waiting list for the pimp. I am sure you'll get some PMs when I get to the motor stuff.

I'm number 18 on the list and should have it before I get back from TX at the end of the month.

Yeah, March is supposed to be a double batch.
Hope to have the cash together next month to finish rebuilding the motor so that way when my PIMP is ready I'll be able to put it in and pray I can make it work.

Project is still moving along. A little slow but ohh well.

Refinished the V8 Calipers

Started tearing out the front suspension components that are all going to be replaced.

Was hoping to get the new stuff on but no one local had the polyurethane boots and bushings. So I had to order those. They arrived this week so I can start putting the new stuff in.

Stepping up to a 1.25" front sway bar so I have prepped it to refinish it as well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/Project%20Black/43981bec.jpg

Once I get all the suspension put back together. I will start on the engine bay area. My new radiator has arrived to better accommodate the front mount intercooler.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/Black92LX/Cars/Project%20Black/3a1c398f.jpg

Once I get that mocked up I will figure what type of fan to use with the set up.

Then we start to tear down the motor. I need to pick up a few parts for the motor still. But I still have awhile till the ECU will be ready so it won't be much of a hurry.

Slowly work on the interior as well. Need to get a couple gauges yet. But we'll get this thing going someday.

Awesome little build, I have a direct replacement rear end w/ a 3.73 Posi and all new brakes and shocks if you are interested in upgrading that area as well.
Keep up the good progress.
