I'll be putting an E-cam and 1.7 cobra rockers on my '94 with the stock E7 heads... just wanting to make sure everything will clear before I yank the stock cam out of it

Ive done it plenty of times and has worked fine. Ive even done the f cam with 1.7s and it was fine but as with everything you should always check for clearance... It comes up to right around .529 lift with the 1.7 rockers. I say your fine.

Dont ya think you should put good springs in that thing too?

Got some sitting with the rockers. Rated for like 550 lift or something so I should be okay there. I'll be throwing valve seals on it while I'm at it... Definitely going to replace what's needed on a car with 228,000 miles on it!

I'd do the 1.7 rockers without the E-cam if you're keeping the stock heads.

It has 228K on it, the motor feels strong still so I dont worry about it, but as far as heads go, if I EVER change the heads, I'll change the whole engine out for an early explorer motor with regular 40's on it.

Why would you not use the E-cam, Scott?

Why would you not use the E-cam, Scott?

You might gain 10-15 hp in the upper RPMs with the E cam and stock heads, but you'll lose some low end with it. Probably wouldn't gain much at the track if anything.

Just wouldn't be worth it to me, but I'm an old guy. Unless you just want the lopey idle....

Now throw some GT40 heads or P heads on it with the E cam would be a different story.
